CR2/DxO thumbnails not always displayed

Post by AMack »

I'm developing my CR2s with DxO (current version: PhotoLab 2). Sometimes, especially after editing the development settings, the respective thumbnails are not displayed any more in PhotoSupreme. The viewer doesn't show the image either. So far, I don't know how to reproduce the probelm, which, to put it less systematically, shows up now and then ;-)

What to do? Bug? User misbehaviour...? Any idea?

Here's a screenshot of a CR2/TIF pair as displayed in the browser:

(Sorry if tis question has been posed already, which didn't seem to be the case for me when searching the forum.)

What happens when you switch off the setting Preferences->File Handling->DxO Edits support? Then select the blank thumb and press Ctrl+Alt+T (Windows) or Cmd+Opt+T (macOS).

Thanks for your quick reply, Hert! CR2s are displayed when following your instructions. Primary problem solved, then.

Will there be fully working support for DxO modifications (.dop files) in the future, anyway? Two different setting levels in the Preferences menu would imply that. I'm fine for the time being, though ;-)

Best wishes,
Andreas.

Can you send me a copy of the dop file for that CR2?

Not sure what implies “fully working support” in Preferences. Psu has 2 levels: Elementary and Approximate. Elementary as in “some” and Approximate as in “best guess”

DXO is a proprietary editor, meaning only, and only (!), DXO can offer “fully working support” for DXO edits. The downside of using a PIE editor (like LR, DXO, CaptureOne, Affinity, Luminar, and others) is that every single one of these tools will lock you in for your edits. If you don’t like that then always export edited images to high quality format, like TIFF

Thank you for your response which I got to see only now. I actually do "develop" CR2 to TIF, so no problem there. And I'm absolutely fine with a RAW representation that doesn't interpret proprietray editing information, dop files in this case. It is rather that I can clearly see the difference between the original image as imported from the camera and what I made out of it by memans of processing.

My last remark rather went into the direction of what is useful to offer in the psu settings; at the time of my post, CR2s weren't displayed at all, which certainly is not the software's developer's main goal ;-)

If the problem has popped up with other users as well and still is unsolved, I'm happy to provide you with sample files. Promised I read your answer in less than eight months' time.
