Re: Best Practices for exported images from Lightroom or Cap

I don't think there is such a thing as a "one size fits all" approach to image organization... each person has their own needs. For example, the professional photographer is more interested in "client" or "event/job" orgnaization.. thus they might export using a folder and job # or client name ...

Re: Capture One Edits

Just to pipe in here... LR and DNG do work well so long as you are OK with DNG's... I have since considered an alternate approach and think it works better for me... JPG export!

1 - Import images from SD card onto computer via LR or C1 (or whatever editor)
2 - Make edits to files as needed
3 ...

Re: Newb: Suggested workflow with separate Raw converter

Welcome to the boards.. as you can imagine, there are lots of workflows around.. yet another that I tend to use involves DNG files. I convert my RAW files (NEF and ARW) to DNG upon import into Photo Supreme and only archive the original RAW file to a "DN" (digital negative) subfolder. I then cull ...

Re: QUESTION: what is your nr1 reason to use Photo Supreme

My #1 reason is: powerful but easy keywording... I love being able to quickly select photos and apply keywords, use keyword sets to quickly switch between frequently applied keyword groups, and the ability to ensure all metadata is sync'd back to each image. Keywording is such an easy, quick and ...

Re: Versioning

Glad to help Roland... confirmed they can be in a subfolder as well which is the method I have adopted for new imports and versioning.

Re: Versioning

I could be wrong but for versioning to work properly in Supreme, the versioned items need to be in either the same main folder or subfolders of the main version... so your RAW files should be in subfolders of your JPG files for the auto versioning to detect them by filename.

Hope this helps! - Andy.

Re: Batch application of recipes

Just curious... why would you want to do that? This is where versioning might be useful... create a version that has your adjustments embedded and another without... your image will still update in that version but if you are applying a recipe - it makes sense that it would.

Re: Considering becoming a DNG convert...

Hi Tom - yes.. I don't believe the virutal copies would be of use in this workflow... the virtual data LR might write out to the image XMP block.. but only a single preview can be written to the DNG file and thus viewed in Idi. It really is a tough balance between the 2 programs and as more and more ...

Re: Considering becoming a DNG convert...

Thanks Dick... glad to know this isn't something isolated to my system! I found the mantis bug (http://bugs.idimager.com/view.php?id=1915) and added my own findings to it as well.

My thanks for confirmation... until this is resolved, I won't be able to perform any more detailed LR/Supreme DNG ...

Re: Considering becoming a DNG convert...

Well.. just completed a quick experiment and I am getting the same results that I have in the past... :(

So - here is what I did:
1 - installed Supreme on my MAC
2 - imported a single DNG image into Supreme from disk (was already converted)
3 - used Open With.. Lightroom to import image into new ...

Re: Considering becoming a DNG convert...

Hi Tom - well - it depends on what I'm doing. If I was going to email or FTP the file directly to my server, then I wouldn't need to create a JPG first... I could just select the DNG and use an FTP export in Supreme to do the work. If I was going to upload the file manually, then yes.. I would need ...

Andy:
A bit Off Topic: I would like to use PSU to export my images, however, I have not found any settings that are comparable to the output quality of LR - can you share your experience?

Hi MIke - I haven't done an in-depth comparison between the too but have setup an export preset in Supreme ...

Re: Considering becoming a DNG convert...

PSU is the software I use to download my images from card, rename, Convert to DNG, Tag, add metadata, add GPS, sort, make collections, ect. ect. ect.
LR is my RAW converter of choice and I use it to export my images to JPG when needed (for clients, facebook, etc.)

In other words PSU does play a ...

Re: Considering becoming a DNG convert...

Andy and Mike,

From what you're saying, it sounds like Photo Supreme plays a very minor role in your workflows. It sounds like you only use it to label your files and perhaps add some descriptive metadata. Is that correct?

Hi Tom - For me, I jump around software quite a bit so my level of ...
