Question about People label metadata

Post by randomphotoguy »

Hello,

Based on the user manual, I understand that People labels should automatically be mapped to the "Person in image" metadata field. However, it doesn't seem to be happening in my case. It only happens if I right click the label, select "details" and in the "Mapped to" field, select Person In Image.

Is there a way to make sure this happens for all labels within the People section, so I don't have to select this manually for every single person?

Thanks!

Seems to work as expected here, but without details of programme version, OS your using etc. its difficult to know if my system is comparable with yours. I simply assign a person label to the image and an entry appears under "IPTC Extension / Person in the image" fields.

The manuals assume the default preference settings. Maybe you have disabled the sync-write preference setting to write People labels to XMP.

For maximum interoperability it is recommended to keep the sync read and write settings at their default.
And I recommend that you undo the manual mapping to "Person in Image" for *all* your catalog labels.

Thanks to both of you. I am using a Mac. I have reset the sync settings, and the boxes are checked for the two settings related to writing people names to XMP, but the problem has not been solved.

I'm also attaching screenshots of the settings for one of the "people" which is not correctly linking to the IPTC fields. Could you please let me know if anything is incorrect? For example should I be selecting "Auto assign its parents" or "process parent mapping"?

Thank you

You are hitting the "OK" to save button on the lower right corner of the Details screen ? I know myself its very easy to forget tucked down in the lower corner!

Thank you very much for the help, but I'm not sure I understand.

My understanding of the process - I add a people label to a photo, and based on that label, the person's name should be automatically added to the "Person in the image" field for any photo which has been tagged with that label, correct? I don't understand at what point in the process I would be required to open the details view (shown in your screenshot above I believe) and press ok.

What am I missing here?

Don't think your missing anything, it was the fact that you said you selected the "details" pane, I was thinking of the "Details pane" that appears on the right-hand side, but your referring to the details section for the Labels. I don't often have any reason to change the configuration "details" pane you mentioned. In my set up that the IPTC fields are configured under Preferences settings by default.
My normal process is just simply drag and drop the Label required to the image(s) and drop it on them, or enter the Label name on the right-hand pane when "Labels pane" is selected.
Have you tried simply dropping the Name label required on the image required and then checking to see if the Label has been assigned and then check the "Details pane" for the correct update ?

Really appreciate that video. That was my understanding of how it should work, but unfortunately still not working for me. Weirdly it works for some labels and not for others, even though I've verified they both have the same settings. Must be something going on technically or with my settings.

As far as I can tell from your video, I'm following the same steps exactly, and settings you showed are the same as mine. In any case, I'll spend a little more time and see if I can get it working before giving up. Thanks again

Could it be that your image is not synchronized? The mapping takes place when synchronized.
Check in States -> Out of Sync if there are possibly images that still need sync'ing.
