excluding txt files?

Post by vkfoto »

During a recent import, files with the extension txt were also brought in. There is no image in them and there is a big red notice where the thumbnail would be: Could not build OS thumb.

Is there a way to remove them from the catalog, one because they are a visual distraction and two, they take up space.

Do you have .txt files in the list of handled file types ?

If so then you need a utility registered to render TXT files, as you would have in Explorer.

And if you are asking how to remove all the text files you've already imported:
- Select the "Types" menu item across the top row
- Select the "TXT" type from the list.
- Select all the images and delete
- Choose "Remove from database but leave on disk"

The next time I Verify folders/files, will they all be selected to bring back into the catalogue or is there a setting to permanently exclude them?

I added Notepad to the External Applications list. Didn't see any place to associate notepad with TXT files. Does PS just try all external applications until it finds one that can handle a TXT file? If more than one could will it just pick the first?

Under Windows it uses what ever application has been registered as the application to handle .txt files normally Notepad.

In addition,
When double clicking, the associated app in the os is started
If you configured Notepad or other editor as an external app you can drag thumbs to the external application to launch it with the selected thumbs as parameters.
