Public Beta for Photo Supreme Online

You can now participate in the public beta of a new module that is in development: Photo Supreme Online (PSO). This is beta software and therefore should only be installed if you're comfortable running software that can/may/probably has issues. The PSO-beta is only available for Photo Supreme Server on Windows running with the PostgreSQL database.

The Photo Supreme Online is an add-on module for the Photo Supreme Server Edition using PostgreSQL as its database, currently only available for the Windows platform. Photo Supreme Online comes as a Web Service Module that serves your Photo Supreme PostgreSQL catalog in a web browser. The Web Service Module enables visitors to access your catalog, directly from an Internet Browser like Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox and the like.

The Web Service Module is a low-cost solution for smaller user groups (up to 10 concurrent users). This can be the members of your household in a home network environment, or team colleagues in a small business environment. But with the right configuration you can also open the catalog for anyone outside your network environment, like friends and family, customers, or field colleagues.

Make sure you have the latest Photo Supreme build installed.

Hert, as I run the SQLite version (and am probably not best placed to swap to server at the moment) I can't help with this particular testing, however it's great to see the progress that you've been making on this!

This looks really exciting! I've long desired a way to allow others to help me manage my photos. I know that exists already, but this is lighter weight. Depending on how this is implemented, it could sway me to the server edition.

A couple questions:

• Will there be any way to run this from a Synology NAS? (understood it's Windows only currently)
• What operations will be available via web access? (I'm pretty much only interested in metadata/cataloging functions... not editing or file folder manipulations)
• Would there be a way to check/approve changes made by others?

Maybe in the future. Right now it only works on Windows.

Afaik, it is possible to install Windows on a Synology in a Virtual Machine. Make sure your NAS is a powerful/high-end one. I do recommend a Synology model with multi core CPU, at least 8GB of installed internal memory and SSD drives installed in the NAS. NAS configurations with less specs will be dreadfully slow.

The Web Module is intended to open up the catalog for display (like providing access to customers, or family or company departments). Catalog Management is done in the PSU software. If you want to do cataloging with multiple people then that is already possible with the Server Edition. They then need the PSU software installed.

How much of PSU's functionality will eventually be available via PSO?
Only access the database, which presumably means not just browsing the catalog online, but also being able to do some searches, view some/most/all of the metadata?

Anything else?
Will it eventually be possible for example to give write access to some potential collaborators, allow them to tag images with labels? And if so, will these labels function just as well as in the main catalog, i.e., write mapped metadata, geo-references, etc. etc. ???

Just curious. Already one can use the sever addition "in-house" across a local network to do all these things and I wonder if the online version will eventually offer the same functionality. That would be really cool, being able to collaborate on image cataloging even across continents. And it could potentially help eliminate the necessity to take ones catalog on the road. As long as there is somewhat decent internet one could access it from just anywhere. Pretty cool...

PSO is currently a viewer. How it evolves depends on the demand of its users.

That is correct. Not some searches but the full advanced search capabilities of the upper right search box in the PSU application.

Anything else?

Restricted access, meaning you can limit what visitors see in PSO. You determine what categories and/or portfolios also become available in PSO. There's also an upload feature that can be enabled (not in the beta) and you can create shared collections (not in the beta) to share sets of images through a link.
It is possible to setup scheduled processes (like schedule Verify Folder on set moments, or sync to files at scheduled moments. PSO also offers benefits to users who don't want to use the web front end but take advantage of the backend possibilities.

It would be possible to give write access, but the first goal is to create a viewer. If write access would be given then all business rules from the catalog will be respected. PSO is built on the same engine as PSU.

Can I have different set of users with different set of authority. For example Family can see all and Friends can only see my travels?

It is possible to grant restricted access on a user base. There are no user groups in PSU Server.

So this bundles its own web server? Are there any plans on releasing a version that allows you to use an existing webserver? For example, I have a webserver running Apache 2.4 and PHP 7.3. I dont need the Windows and extra webserver overhead.

The other thing that would be interesting is a docker container.

The version that is shared here is a Windows Service running its own web server. As mentioned in the opening post, this is the version targeted towards small groups.
