Hi,
I'm currently using PS - build number 2.2.5.1045 (64Bit). Functionally this does everything I require. I purely use it for assigning structured Keywords to sidecar xmps and for searching. All other image and video processing is undertaken using a variety of RAW and other image processing tools which can read the sidecar xmps.
I have around 185,000 files indexed and it is now becoming rather lethargic when I try to assign new keywords. Sometimes I can wait several minutes before I can add a new batch of keywords to images I have just imported.
Is there likely to be any performance improvement in upgrading to a later version of PS? Performance wise my PC is quite adequate for all my other software (Windows 10, 64Bit - Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3340 CPU @ 3.10GHz, 3301 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s))
I don't want to split my catalog as I often want to search for particular subject matter across all my image files. Are there any other alternative suggestions to improve performance?
Thanks
Neil
Performance improvement by upgrading?
Re: Performance improvement by upgrading?
Neil,
you can install PSU 3.x as a trial side by side with PSU 2.x on your computer - make a copy of your database and give it a try.
I am sure you you will find improvement in speed but only you can say if the switch is worth it for you.

After upgrading the database, don't forget to Compact. There should be a noticeable performance gain. Also check http://whatsnew.idimager.com

Re: Performance improvement by upgrading?
Thanks Hert for the reminder re compacting. Although it took a couple of hours I've compacted the database on my current version and it is much, much faster than it was to load and to find keywords for assignment. Looks like I don't actually need to upgrade just yet.
