I've been looking through the new web site but unable to see any reference to the differences between supreme and Idimager5. I assume there must be some otherwise there would be no point in upgrading. I don't want to waste time downloading and learning how to use the trial version if the upgrade is of no use to me.
Could someone point me in the right direction

Difference between supreme and IDI5
Re: Difference between supreme and IDI5
Paul, unfortunately there is no comparison sheet yet.
I think it is just a matter of time until it is available somewhere
Cheers,
Michael

Re: Difference between supreme and IDI5
Well, one of the first things that has become clear ... Photo Supreme has no file management capability whatever.
Need to make a new folder? Go to your system accessories to do that .. Windows "Explorer" or whatever it is on Mac.
Need to transfer part of your library? Sorry ... gotta leave the program to do so.
How does PhSup then know where the files are? Don't ask ... this isn't a *real* DAM program, it's got fewer file-management capabilities than Lightroom. Hert get's ... irritated ... about this. Hert does not want any comparison made between IdImager and PhSup (or any other program, it seems).
Sorry ... but file management is such a prime or central part of any DAM ... and PhSup has none at all.
Neil

Re: Difference between supreme and IDI5
Thanks for the comments,
I only used IdImager occasionally because of its unreliable database and was hoping the Supreme program would be better. From the comments Neil has made I think an upgrade would be a waste of time for me as I would expect any DAM program to have basic file management built in.
It looks as though I will be staying with ACDsee Pro for the foreseeable future.

Re: Difference between supreme and IDI5
Is there a demo video available? I'd like to understand if ease of use has improved. Most of us only need a subset of the IDI feature set. Now if I could only figure out if PS will meet my needs or not.

Dismayed - why not try it? That's what I did. So far, PSU is holding up well - for my usage patterns.

Re: Difference between supreme and IDI5
paulgul - I started with ACDsee Pro, migrated to IDi-Pro, was glad that I did, despite the large metadata migration effort from ACDsee, the initial learning curve, far slower operation, and sometimes flakiness. I am not a heavy duty user like some of the pros in this forum, but glad I have now migrated to Supreme. I have lost none of the metadata in the migration of 20,000 files, and my workflow is now actually faster. Remember this is version 1, and has some teething problems like almost every version 1 piece of software. But it is heaps faster (for me) than IDi-pro is nearly all aspects, the ID online community is very supportive, and Hert is releasing continual improvements and bug fixes as they are reported. Just give it a try?paulgul wrote:It looks as though I will be staying with ACDsee Pro for the foreseeable future.

Re: Difference between supreme and IDI5
Like Andrew, I'm not a heavy user either...Photo Supreme is much easier to use. The proof for me is that I actually use PS while I didn't use IDi4 or IDi5. The complexity is what kept me away from cataloging with those programs and I was a licensed user of both. I'm still test driving PS, but so far I like it. With some improvements I think it will be hard to find a better program to catalog with.
