Will there be a file-manager in Photo Supreme for the version of windows like in Idi V5 (or better)?

You can browse the Catalog by Folders. That allows you to browse the imported folders over a tree.

Hi Hert,

thank you for your response. This I already found, but it didn't help me really.

Normally I sort my pictures with IDimager V5 (import from a file --> sort to folders of species (and there are a lot of biological species, so I have to create new one) or to a folder with dates). I also working with two displays. On the right display I have the file manager of IDimager V5, left rest of IDimager (category and so on).

Is there a possibility to undock some tables?

Hi Menace,

The folder should be sorted here too. There is no File Manager, so either try to achieve the same in a different way. Maybe you can explain in more detail what you're trying to achieve and I'm sure I can then point out another way to achieve (almost?) the same result. So try to explain what result you want and not what you do now in IDI.

PSU is a DAM tool, not a File Manager. Use a File Manager for this; for instance Windows Explorer.

You're expecting PSU to be what IDimager is. I mentioned many times that they are different tools and aren't comparable.

Sorry Hert, but that's a ridiculous statement. File Management is part of the DAM process. DAM systems manages files so how the can you say File Manager is not part of a DAM system. It might not be at the forefront of a DAM system, but it is still a vital part of the tool.

As part of my workflow I have to move finished images into my archive on my NAS. This archive is structured to mirror my backups so there is a folder for each main HDD backup that contains several sub folders that represent each secondary HDD backup and finally within each of these folders are sub folders that represent optical disk backups.

I need to be able to move folders around as my backup structure changes (ie I replace older drives with larger drives or migrate DVDs to BluRay.) I also need to monitor the size of my newest folder to ensure it will fit onto the target backup.

Yes I can do all of this outside of Supreme, but supreme won't know where my files have gone will it? That is a serious flaw for any DAM system.

You're expecting PSU to be what IDimager is. I mentioned many times that they are different tools and aren't comparable.

But supreme replaces IDimager, it's not an alternative product. Some expectation that functionality will continue is only to be expected if you take this approach. Will IDimager support continue & will outstanding bugs be addressed? If the answer to this is no then you have just alienated all your existing IDimager users.

Well that's a real shame because you have killed off one of the best DAM systems a working professional could ask for and replaced it with a toy.

I wish you luck with PSU, but regrettably it's not a professional standard product IMO.

Craig, I'm afraid I have to agree with you. As far as PSU stands now, the pro features that Pro's used and loved seem to be weakened or missing.

I'm still brand new to PSU, but I can't find dual monitor support, workspace customization, and many other things. It now taks 4 steps to do what it took a simple drag and drop. Versioning seems to be so crippled as to not be useful.

As for no file manager, you are so correct. I need that a lot more than I need any 'editing or adjustment' functions. I have enough other programs that do that.

I think they are just trying to go for the bigger market share as we Pro's are a limited lot, and they do need to maintain a revenue.

As I've said, there are a number of things I like a lot, but we are losing too many of the things we need.

I'm inclined to agree. Perhaps I missed the message, but I've been taken aback by the brusque announcement of the death of IDimager, and the fact that there is no further support.

Jim, I quite understand and support Hert when it comes to new products to ensure the survival of his business, but the death of IDimager came out of the blue yesterday and was a bitter blow when I discovered that there wasn't a viable replacement.

There was no warning of it's impending death and no chance to negotiate some final essential fixes. I would have been more than happy to pay for extended support to IDimager to solve a few of the current bugs. I have been living with an old version of IDimager with all it's metadata quirks for several months patiently waiting for an important metadata fix to something that was broken in a more recent version believing that it would be fixed. Now I know in reality it had probably been long abandoned.

I would much rather pay a reasonable premium to keep support for a great product than loose functionality and have to go through another DAM migration nightmare. I might have been able to downgrade my expectations of PSU over time (as I will have to with whichever alternative DAM system I eventually buy) but the lack of a file manager and any way of tracking changes made by external applications means PSU is not ever going to work for me and sadly I must say goodbye and start work on researching and planning for a replacement. It was good while it lasted.

I was just remarking on my reason for the product. But I am very disappointed by the news of IDI's death and the replacement for it. IDI was THE DAM product, nothing was close. Now they are all equally lacking. I'm thinking I almost might as well just use LR for everything now. But before I do, I will give PSU a fair shot and might even buy it anyway as I'm sure it will evolve.

That being the case, I would expect it to still be true. Indeed, from what I understand, it remains true. So, I'm confused, Jimi, why you would want to move to Lightroom when you seem to be conceding that it's not as strong as IDimager. As an example, I'm very happy to continue using IDimager if I determine that PSU doesn't meet my needs as well as IDimager does.

I made a list a long time ago of the capabilities that are important to me and all of the capabilities that are deal breakers for me if PSU doesn't have any of them. I licensed PSU yesterday, not knowing whether I'll use it. I did that to return in just a small way the support and kindness to Hert and everyone on his team including the moderators that they have always given me.
