The new website is pretty, clean, modern ... and sadly and utterly lacking in any actual information. I'm rather stunned.

There's no info whatever (past a couple on-angle screen captures) as to what the "new" product looks like, how it works, no comparison of features with IDI5 let alone Lightroom or Aperture or anything else ... in short, absolute NOTHING that would induce me to take a look at it by downloading and trying out the thing.

Coupled with the way you simply announced that IdI-5 is DEAD, and unsupported from now on ... for all us paid users ... tough bull-dung. Wow.

I'd always been impressed by the way you took care of your people. I guess we're not your people anymore ...

That's very sad to see ...

PS looks nice, but either it's missing a lot of things I need (and things I loved about IDI), virtual collections, download profiles. Those are things that are huge for my workflow and what made IDI so good for a working pro.

I'm going to be sad as hell if this new product doesn't have something similar.

They are there, but they've moved. Look under CATALOG --> By Portfolio

Versioning seems to have been severely crippled though. I can't see any way to synchronise metadata to all versions in a set. Utter madness!

Ha Ha!

Yes - They are there on the Conversion - But after that its a real mission to use them / create new ones on the fly - and you can't use them like you did in V5 to create "Temp" buckets easily displayed across the bottom of the screen in tabs. So that users can easily see and access them.

And have you tried to get an image into a Portfolio - First Select the Image (say in Catalogue - Category) - Add to Image Basket - Select Catalogue By Portfolio - Drag from Image Basket to Portfolio

And yes - there is no Versioning Wizard - If you don't Version on Import then you are restricted to versioning via Drag and Drop. I have tried to assemble all my "I want to version" images into one place and then re import them back into their final locations and thus versioning them at the same time - but its just too much hassle

Yes you are right. I'd not got that far to realise they're pretty much useless now - just another portfolio really.

Having invested literally hundreds of hours versioning the majority of my important images over the past few years, I'm thoroughly hacked off to discover it's had all it's powerful features removed in Supreme. I've been limping along with an old version of IDimager for months while patiently waiting for an important metadata fix for IDimager and yesterday without any notice IDimager was killed off. The replacement might run a little faster, but too many useful features are now hidden away or missing completely and the one thing that made me stick with IDimager (ie a decent versioning system) has gone.

Time to take a look at lightroom I guess

You can select multiple images, add them to the Image Basket, go to the IB, select all, cut/paste them to a portfolio,

It does contain screenshots to display what the product looks like. No it doesn't tell you how it works.... it's a website, not a manual. The more detail the more cluttered and "the opposite of modern" it will look. Pretty, clean, and modern means back to the core, no cluttering. That is what the site as well as our products is all about. PSU is a DAM tool, uncluttered with features that don't belong in such a tool.

The image basket is ok, but is only temp. Across the bottom of my idi screen I had a several permanent virtual collections. The most useful was a Table of contents that had a file from every shoot in it. I could quickly scan back, pick the image, and jump to it's catalog folder. Same thing with a 'work in progress' folder. Now that is gone and as yet, I don't see a workaround.

How could you kill off Versioning and features like these.

The star system with a number in the star is hard to read and not as easy to quickly see rating

Is scripting available in download profiles? I had a great download profile that would look at the date I was importing and subract one day from it so it would create the folder name based on yesterdays date. (used when shooting at clubs where I would start Friday night and import Saturday morning). I could just pick the club profile, and off it went!

How do I find labels by typing? I have too many to scroll around looking for ways to build a query. For instance, how do I find every image I have that contains the name "Angel" in it? In IDI as I typed in a name, I would see a listing of anything that contained it, super useful. How do I do it in PS?

HOW do I see sub-folders? I have a found label "Christine", I jump to the folder, and it's all the RAW images, How do I see, import the folders underneath? Was a snap in IDI.

Where is the Scan Folder and subfolders for uncatalogued images or what is the workaround? If I do Import is seems to want to start at My Pictures? How about start in the folder I've currently selected as an option?

You could collect in the IB, then cut/paste them to portfolios. Btw; the IB is not temporary. The content remains through invocations.

Yes, scripting is available in Download profiles. Most likely you will be able to use your existing script in PSU.

Ctrl+F when you're in the Catalog Tree

In PSU you type in Angel in the Search Box (right side of the toolbar). Super useful.

Expand the folder... like you always did.

Right click on a folder and select "Verify Folder".

But that adds considerable overhead to my workflow.

I have several virtual collections in IDimager. Each one represents a queue of images that need uploading to a library/publication/client. At the end of an image edit session I could drag suitable images from the set I have just processed into the appropriate virtual collection. It might be just one collection for that session or it might be 10 that I placed images in. Different images would often go to different collections so I would have to repeat the image basket for each collection.

In supreme this is a logistical nightmare with far too many steps. I can't even use IDimager's context menu 'send to' option because that's gone and it's not in the 'Transfer To' option either. Sending images to a portfolio is no longer an option now I think about it. Furthermore some of my virtual collections have to contain images exclusive to that collection. By adding all these extra steps I loose the visual reference I had on screen in IDimager which ensured I didn't place an exclusive image into more than one collection the moment I look at the basket.

Um ... I'm not worried really so much how it looks as to what it does ... and how quickly I can do what *I* need to get done. Pretty is for amateurs ...

"uncluttered with features that don't belong in such a tool" ... um ... like file management? How is PrSup supposed to track my files if I move them outside the program? Can it track off-line files, as IdImager did? And ... when I bring a whole disc of archived images online, how well is the versioning system going to handle things? With a good share of the versioning of IdImager gutted (as it appears) ... that alone could be weeks of work ... *extra* work ... that wasn't required in IdImager.

Those are a couple of things that SEPARATE the cheap crap "dam" tools from what you accomplished with IdImager!

And Hert, I so loved your support, both here and over at the DAM book forum ... but this seems more a toy, than a real tool ...
