Filter by Stack Top Items

Post by marklevine »

Maybe this is a misunderstanding on my part but I don't get the results I expect when I filter by Stack Top Items.

For example, when adding to the Image Basket with one stack selected, when I press Shift-B is see that ALL images from the stack are added to the image basket.

When I Filter - State - Stack Details - Stack Top Item and then press Shift-B, I *still* get all images from the stack added to the image basket. I would have expected only the top item to be added.

Am I missing something or is this a bug? Thanks!

I expect that behavior is intentional, so I don't think it is a bug.

To do what you want, toggle the stacked display (icon in the upper left, or opt/alt-shift-G). That will show all the stacked images individually. Then select the one you want to add to the Image Basket.

Your suggestion is correct but unwieldy. All my images are stacked (JPG + RAW) , so cherry-picking the tops of stacks is just what I want to avoid! I am frequently selecting one or more stacks, pressing Shift-Alt-S to view selected stacks in a new tab. Yeah it works but it shouldn't have to be that way. For example, I add certain labels exclusively to the image at the top of stacks: "Life List" is a label which is used to define inclusion is a dynamic collection. The only way I know to do this is to select the stack, press Shift-Alt-S, cherry-pick the top image, assign the label, then close the tab. Again, unwieldy.

I think you may have misread my post. I said alt-shift-G (not S) to unstack the display.

So, for example, I have a folder with stacked images in it, I filter Stack Details > Stack Top Items and the stacks are displayed with the top items displayed, but if I apply a label at this point, it is applied to all images in the stack.

So far, this is the problem you are up against.

But if you unstack the images by clicking the stack icon in the upper left (just to the right of the filter icon), or the shortcut alt-shift-G, then the top items are displayed alone without the rest of the stacked items. At this point you can apply your label to the images. You don't even need to send them to the Image Basket.
