Photo Supreme 2024 non-responding?

Post by tweebee »

Hello,

I did a new install of version 2024 on my workstation about a week ago and imported my Lightroom catalog. After a long while, it looked like everything was done so I closed the program. Every time, I opened the program again, I am getting a "continue the thumbnail build for 68138 files in sets of 2500 files... " message and then Synchronization and Building Thumbnails would show up under Activity, but it doesn't seem to do anything. After some time, when I click around the program, I'm just getting non-responding. When I close the program and open it back up, it does the same thing. I've tried deleting the catalog and import from Lightroom again and getting the same thing. I'm attaching screenshots.

What do I need to do to fix this please?

Thanks

tweebee, PhotoSupreme does a lot of black magic importing all the metadata for the photos being imported. It takes a surprisingly long time to import 70K+ images, probably many many hours depending on your hardware.

What is happening is you are stopping PhotoSupreme before it is finished importing your images and when you restart PhotoSupreme, it is continuing the import it still has to complete. From my experience, it is not always obvious that PhotoSupreme is still working as sometimes the UI takes a while to update to say it is busy, so be careful that PhotoSupreme is really finished before closing it.

My recommendation is to not import all the images at once. Import say 1000 images and see how you go. If that works OK, import another 1000 or maybe 5000 images. Don’t import everything at once. Given that you have already started importing everything at once, you can just leave it run now to complete the import if you wish. Again, this will probably take many many hours. Be patient. The import takes time, but once everything is imported, everything is very fast.

Make sure your database is on a fast disk, preferably SSD, else PhotoSupreme will run relatively slow. Also, make sure you exclude the PhotoSupreme database folder from your virus scanner else again, PhotoSupreme will run very slowly.

Welcome to PhotoSupreme.
