On1 Photo Raw
On1 Photo Raw
Hi all, I bought On1 Photo Raw before seeing this post: viewtopic.php?t=35098
But I am willing to try it since they have a 30 day money back.
The problem I'm having is that I can't call it from PSU - I have RawTherapee and Darktable installed and they both work. I'm not sure what's going on.
While I'm posting, how do I "apply" changes to the image after editing with RawTherapee? I mean that the program is called, I edit the image, I close RawTherapee, but the changes are not reflected in PSU. If I re-open RawTherapee, all my changes are intact. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
I think I found part of what's wrong. I was able to start On1 from my desktop when I first installed it, but now I have to right click and "run as administrator" - no idea why that changed. I did edit the properties of the icon to always run as an administrator, and it works normally now, but PSU still won't call On1. Sigh.
But I am willing to try it since they have a 30 day money back.

Re: On1 Photo Raw
I recently bought On1 Photo Raw as well and I can launch it from PSU without a problem so I know it works. But I'm on a Mac and it sounds like you might be on Windows.
Re: On1 Photo Raw
For better or worse, PSu does not automatically update its database when there are file changes in the folder being referenced. That includes files added, deleted or edited. As far as I know, the only way to have PSu reflect the edited status of your folder’s file(s) is to choose “Verify Folder…” in the folder tree in PSu. (Use the “Quick” version of Verify as it is, in fact, much faster.)
Re: On1 Photo Raw
Hmmm.
OK. Thanks for the input, I'll try to dig a bit more as far as launching On1, and yes, I am on Windows.
Also, thanks for the "Verify folder" tip - for some reason I thought the program would scan for changes automatically.

Re: On1 Photo Raw
It soft of can scan automatically. It won't detect changes and scan but you can use the Schedule Verify feature to have a folder automatically scanned at certain times or intervals.LordP666 wrote: 17 Jun 24 17:53 Hmmm.

Re: On1 Photo Raw
PSU will run the application as the "current user" and if Windows doesn't allow that then Windows will refuse the application from starting.
You should ask yourself why Windows requires that application to run as the Administrator.
If that's a requirement of that software then I guess you should also start PSU as Administrator.

Re: On1 Photo Raw
OK. So, I decided to uninstall On1, and re-install while making sure it was set to "All users" - didn't make a difference.
Thanks to Hert, setting PSU to run as Administrator...worked!!
I also tried what smadell suggested, "verify quick" and I thought it didn't work until I scrolled to the bottom of all the files, which is where it showed up, most likely because On1 saves as a PSD. So, yes, "veryfy" worked.
I wonder if there is some way to get around having to verify?
Once again, thanks to everyone.

Re: On1 Photo Raw
I have ON1 Photo RAW MAX 2024 on my Mac Studio and utilize it with Photo Supreme. However, I use PhotoLine (a cheap but very capable image editor with layers) as an intermediary to run the ON1 plugins, including Develop and Effects. This gives me access to the ON1 adjustments with the updated 2024.5 accurate AI masking without having to hassle with an ON1 database.LordP666 wrote: 17 Jun 24 13:09 Hi all, I bought On1 Photo Raw before seeing this post: viewtopic.php?t=35098

Re: On1 Photo Raw
You don't need to use the subpar On1 database, just don't catalog any folders. Then all you have to do is either use the Browse in On1 to find a file to edit or just launch it directly from PSU after selecting one or more images...which is what I do most of the time. It's a bit quicker than launching Affinity (my editor of choice) and then using On1 as a plugin. Besides, I want to edit the raw and On1 is better than Affinity at that.OldRadioGuy wrote: 18 Jun 24 14:13I have ON1 Photo RAW MAX 2024 on my Mac Studio and utilize it with Photo Supreme. @OldRadioGuy & @wesstl
I'm not using On1 for database reasons, just to edit using Develop and Effects, like OldRadioGuy said, that's why I needed to call it from PSU - which I use to manage the photos.

Re: On1 Photo Raw
LMAO. I now have the opposite problem: I can start On1 from PSU, but it won't start from the desktop icon. LOL
I think it's time for a refund.
EDIT. On a hunch, I looked at the program properties and it was back to running normally - NOT as administrator - On1 had updated. Changing to administrator fixed it.

Re: On1 Photo Raw
I never runs any Software as Administrator.
I can start ON1 from PSU, but what doesn't work is passing a picture.
So I just let it be. Software that thinks it is the center of the earth is not what I need. Answer from ON1 support was - I would be the only one who wants to call ON1 from other software.
