I just updated 4 Windows 10 clients with latest update for Photo Supreme PostGreSQL version.
When I try to login, I get an information window that the database needs upgrading and since I am not logged in as the administrator, I cannot perform the database upgrade and login.
Is this requirement to be logged in as administrator new for 2024?
In the past, I was able to initiate a database upgrade from a non-administrator account.
[Edit] this was poor wording. The accounts are all (Photo Supreme/PostgreSQL) admin accounts. But not the Main Admin account (built-in).
Update PS2024 and locked out?

Re: Update PS2024 and locked out?
Followup: I was able to login via the admin account, and initiate the database upgrade.
Still wondering if this will be normal behavior for 2024 going forward.
I am compacting the db/thumbs and it has taken 20 minutes so far (way longer than usual).
(Finally finished after 35 minutes.)

Re: Update PS2024 and locked out?
The requirement for an admin user to upgrade the database is in place for a few years already (was it v7?). This prevents random users to install an update and upgrade the database which can affect all users connecting to the same database. The admin can coordinate when the upgrade takes place.
Compacting on postgresql depends on the level of fragmentation of the database. This is typically fine but every now and then the level gets too high and then it takes longer to line up the database again. Psu queries the database to know if fragmentation is too high. So typically a compact flies on postgresql until it is needed to do the addition compacting which you experienced here.

I understand and all my users are Administrators. It's been working as you described for many versions.Hert wrote: 16 Apr 24 6:03 The requirement for an admin user to upgrade the database is in place for a few years already (was it v7?). In todays case, the database upgrade required the Main Administrator account. None of the Administrator users could initiate the db upgrade.
My first upgrade since moving to PS2024, I thought this might be new behavior.

Re: Update PS2024 and locked out?
System/ Windows Administrators are not SQL Administrators.
Re: Update PS2024 and locked out?
This has nothing to do with Windows/System Admin accounts!
Once more, all my users are (Photo Supreme/PostgreSQL) Administrators.
In addition, the built-in Admin account is a (Photo Supreme/PostgreSQL) (Photo Supreme/PostgreSQL) Administrators.
On the last update, I was unable to complete the database upgrade portion on any machine until I logged out of my (Photo Supreme/PostgreSQL) Administrator account and used the built-in (Photo Supreme/PostgreSQL) (Photo Supreme/PostgreSQL) Administrator account.
