Hi,,
my favorite RAW editor is Capture One. I have built some scripts for it so that I can work "perfectly" with C1 and PSU.
The future of Capture One doesn't look so good. So I would like to look for an alternative to C1. It could always be ON1 Photo RAW, but since the DAM functions and keyword handling are just bad I still need software like PSU. But ON1 Photo RAW does not offer a script interface and also uses a non-readable database (LevelDB).
Anyone who uses ON1 Photo RAW and PSU?
Re: Anyone who uses ON1 Photo RAW and PSU?
I think, at least for me, it makes no sense to continue dealing with ON1. There are too many restrictions that want to lock me as a user into a cage. (Encrypted database, for example)
I will see what a workflow with DxO PhotoLAb might look like.

Hello RobiWan,
I work with DXO and PSU and there are no issues. I just make sure that I do not edit/add any metadata in DXO but only in PSU.
When doing metadata with PSU just make sure you unitick In DXO settings/metadata a) synchronize metadata with xmp sidecar files and b)write keyword hierarchies in the xmp dc:subject tag

Hi Sigi,
thanks. In my case, the metadata is only written by myself (ExifTool) or PSU. Any application that does not completely adhere to the specifications is immediately removed from the disk.

Re: Anyone who uses ON1 Photo RAW and PSU?
Personally I never quite liked Capture One, but I do use DxO PhotoLab a lot and it works well with PSU.
But I am still on PhotoLab 5, because I am not too keen on getting any database set up that I don't need. No idea, why all the raw editors these days seem to think they need to include a database...

Just curious: what's going on. I don't see any news on their site that it's being discontinued...The future of Capture One doesn't look so good.
Re: Anyone who uses ON1 Photo RAW and PSU?
At this time is not now "game over", but they have fired the communications team 2 times twice within a few months. Like many other companies, they want to bring people to Abo. Unfortunately, they communicated it incorrectly and misleadingly. As a result, many customers have switched to other software. This is not a good sign for the future, especially as the company has been bought by a hedgefond investor.Just curious: what's going on. Re: Anyone who uses ON1 Photo RAW and PSU?
I switched from Capture One to a DxO PhotoLab/Photo Supreme combination a couple of years ago (when it became obvious that C1 had been taken over by MBA's that knew nothing about photography or customer loyalty). Through PhotoLab 5, 6 and 7 I have not had any database problems whatsoever. I use Photo Supreme for all database functions and do not select anything in PhotoLab/Preferences/Metadata/Synchronization. The database may exist in PhotoLab but I never see it or use it and definitely did not have to set it up. You really shouldn't let the database thing prevent you from upgrading.fbungarz wrote: 13 Mar 24 19:22 Personally I never quite liked Capture One, but I do use DxO PhotoLab a lot and it works well with PSU.

Re: Anyone who uses ON1 Photo RAW and PSU?
It is not the database. With DxO PL I see the problem of rating and sorting out the images. I don't think DxO or PSU are suitable for doing this task quickly and efficiently.bandybw wrote: 18 Mar 24 15:06 The database may exist in PhotoLab but I never see it or use it and definitely did not have to set it up. Fast RAW Viewer, for example, would certainly be an option. But that means another tool that has to be used
Re: Anyone who uses ON1 Photo RAW and PSU?
I agree that Fast Raw Viewer is a great way to sort and rate photos. I was trying to point out that although DxO PhotoLab added a database that is not a reason to stay with V5 of PhotoLab and forgo the improvements of V6 and V7. Photo Supreme works well the latest PhotoLab.
The reason I use Photo Supreme is because I was tired of rebuilding my library every time I switched editors. I have gone from ACDSee to Lightroom to Capture One and now to PhotoLab - all because companies changed policies or capabilities of their software. I hope to never use a library from within a photo editing program again.
