Panning one frame in the light table

Post by marklevine »

Gah! This is a terrible regression. [Fixed almost immediately! Thanks.]

I have this quirky behavior that comes from being old and shooting hand-held with a big lens. I tend to allow the camera to shift downward during bursts. This causes the subject of the photos to move within the frame. I use the Light Table to select the best shot, so it is critical that I be able to scroll each pane of the Light Table independently, to align the subjects.

Old behavior in 2023 and before: Hold the ALT key down while dragging within one frame. Only that one frame would scroll.

New behavior in 2024: Hold the ALT key down and some dopey box appears in the affected frame. There seems to be NO WAY to scroll by dragging only one frame. That is, Alt-scroll, Shift-scroll, Ctrl-scroll, Alt-Ctrl-scroll, et al, all fail.

Steps to reproduce: 1) Select two or more thumbnails. 2) Press Ctrl-Y to display the Light table. 3) Hold the ALT key down and drag within a frame. See a dopey frame. (Yeah I know its for some new "feature". 4) Hold any other modifier key down and drag within a frame to see all the frames move in unison - Fail!

I suppose the use of the elevators is the workaround for this regression but this is not precise. The new feature (dopey box creation) took over an existing UI gesture. There were other, previously unused, UI gestures that were available, such as Shift-scroll and Ctrl-scroll. If you can't give back Alt-scroll, then permit Shift-scroll or Ctrl-scroll.

On a side note, who redeploys gestures? Why oh why oh why?
