While digging in to trying to copy meta data to versions I have found that all version in a version stack are being deleted when I delete the jpg image. I do not have the apply to all images in the stack check box selected. The PSU display still shows the heic as being in the catalogue but the file on the disk is gone.

Note that HEIC files and JPG files are considered sidecars of each other. File operations are always handled on sidecars as well. Eg a XMP sidecar is deleted when a RAW file is deleted...similarly a JPG sidecar file is deleted when a HEIC file is deleted.
