Synchronize service very slow even blocking the app

Post by jj95 »

Hello

When making "verify folders" operations, synchronisation is sometimes detected to be operated.

If this concerns one or two files, this goes quite quickly (displaying the "Synchronise service" process in the "Activity" window - bottom left)

However, this generates some slowdown reactivity of PS.

But, when the number of files to be synchronzed, the reactivity of PS does down drastically, even blocking the app, that gets unusable during multiples tens of seconds, even minutes.....

What is strange, is that the system monitor indicates almost 0% for CPU and disk usage, and memory is quite low (700 Mo)

After 5 minutes of app blocked, the only issue is to kill the process.

/////////////////////
Settings for synchronise
- Write settings : only "write catalog data to IDImager ICS scheme" is checked, the 3 others options are not checked (this means :metada in the file + meta data in RAW files + update all files)
/////////////////////
Settings of MS antivirus : folder of the database is excluded
/////////////////////

This is the main concern I have with PS, but such behaviour gives me very bad feeling of keeping using PS for cataloging my photos.

What's going wrong ?

Plus : versions detection is activated

This feature (versions detection) is the major feature why I keep using PS. Among the other cataloging apps I have tested, this feature i have not found (even ACDSee)

Is the versions detection the reason why it is so slow and blocking ? What is strange is that windows perf monitor detects almost no activity from PS when it that situation.

Responding to my own post ....

Using the opportunity of Black Friday for buying a SSD drive to replace my HDD, what I can state is that, now, the problem of slow sync process has disappeared :D :D :D :D

Lesson learned : use PS with a computer equipped with a SSD.
