Reorder Categories?

How do you reorder the items inside a category or sub-category?

I know Ctrl-Up (Windows) allow me to reorder collections in Portfolio but does not seem to work for Categories

Seems that if I close PSU - and then reopens it - the CATEGORIES are now sorted alphabetically. Is this how this works?

You cannot sort Catalog Labels inside a category. Those are always alphabetically.

You can manually order Portfolios, Collection inside Portfolios, and Subcollections inside Collections (right click -> Move Up/Down)
You can also order Categories (right click -> Move Up/Down)
You canNOT order Catalog Labels inside a Category. You can prefix the name with a number, or make smaller decompositions in sub labels, or use the search above the left side Catalog Explorer to quickly find an entry (tip, just start typing, no need to click the magnifying glass)

Is it possible to get custom order feature within Categories in future releases? Or there is something inherently preventing doing it?
It would be a very valueable enhacement to the software.

One could argue that more flexibility when it comes to customization is always an improvement, right?
But in this case I am not so sure...

I have thousands of labels in the Category tree and it would easily become extremely confusing if these could be sorted manually. By adding this option, I am sure people would soon start to complain that they cannot find anything any more, easily forgetting the criteria by which they decided to sort the individual labels.

PSU already allows you to sort the categories, which is very useful. But the labels? I find the alphabetic order there really works best.

One thing:
Are you aware that you can create your own label sets, where you can organize frequently used labels into convenient groups that show up in the Label Assignment panel? This is an extremely useful feature to more quickly find and assign particular labels than searching for them in the Categories tree.

Currently these label sets are organized alphabetically, only the standard sets always appear at the top (RECENTLY USED, FAVOURITES, SUGGESTED, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, NEARBY LABELS). I think it would be very useful to be able to customize this. I typically have the RECENTLY USED panel expanded, but I virtually never use the other default panels at all. Instead I much prefer using my custom label sets. Thus, for me FAVOURITES, SUGGESTED, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, NEARBY LABELS just take up valuable space unnecessarily, even if collapsed. I would much prefer to use that valuable space at the top for my own custom sets. And for these, the custom sets, being able to sort them the way I like would indeed be very useful. The sets that I regularly use for all images at the top, the label sets less often used towards the bottom.

Hi fbfungarz. I'm sorry, but I badly misdescribed my desire for a new feature. That's a result of my misunderstanding of jack208 problem. I have no need to sort labels within a category tree. My real intention was to ask for custom sorting of displayed tumbnails when a particular label(keyword) is highlighted/selected. The same as is possible in collections. It would be very handy in my workflow. Next time will read posts more carefully.

Might the "sort by Script" option then selecting a Label as below solve the problem ?
