I've a large num of photos marked as "out of sync". I tried searching for this keyword to find out what to do with them, but Search does not allow me to use these words ("of" = too common, "out" = too short ie 3-letters LOL). So thought I'll just call out here to see if anyone can provide quick pointers.
btw I now marked this as "out-of-sync" so that I can easily search this back in future.
What do you do with Out of Sync (out-of-sync) photos?

I'm copying the info from the manual here for those looking to do a quick search
In this Catalog, there are 23 files that are “Out of Sync”. This means that the metadata
should either be read from the file to replace the metadata in the Catalog or that the
metadata from the Catalog should be written to replace the metadata in the file.
You can right click on one or more selected thumbnails and select “Metadata Read
Metadata to File” or “Metadata Read Metadata from File”.

How do you know which to do… read or write?
Re: What do you do with Out of Sync (out-of-sync) photos?
Most people will be mastering their data in PSU. That is to say any changes will be made in PSU. In which case they will want to bring the image file up to date with those changes by writing. Many folk will have their PSU settings such that changes are written to the image automatically as they are made.
If you have made changes to the image file using other software and wish to reflect those changes in PSU then you would read the changes in so the PSU catalog reflects that data.
In the "synchronise" section of settings you will find settings that control reading and writing but the defaults will be suitable for the majority of users and I wouldn't recommend changing them unless you know what you doing and have a reason to.

Re: What do you do with Out of Sync (out-of-sync) photos?
Yesterday I found a number of newly imported files (jpg + RAW) had the wrong time so I used the Redate in PSu. While most changes I make are saved right away the time changes weren't and I had to manually Save to File. I assume that if you do anything in PSu and still have the Out of Sync icon you will need to Save to File as whatever you do and shown in thumbnail or elsewhere is PSu database only.

Correct. Make sure you haven't turned off in Preferences|Synchonize settings|Automaticallyvwrite out....
