Sorting and Preview - makes me crazy - Bug?

Post by Thargor »

Hi everyone,

perhaps I am missing something. I have the following severe problem.

I habe three sources of images mixed in a folder (2022-11) which i want to label and rate (star-wise). I sort by photo date because then all images from the different sources (cameras) are displayed in a nice sequence.
If i open now the preview and step through the images to label and rate (with the arrow keys), the images are shown in a completely different sorting sequence and - what is even worse - not all images are shown. That makes is nearly impossible to quickly rate and label the pictures.

Do I miss something or is this a bug?

I use the server version 7.4.3.4667.pg

I cannot reproduce that here. What I did,

1. Click Folders
2. Select the folder (in my case 2004->2004-07)
3. Click the counter to get a recursive view
4. Changed the sort order to Sort by Photo Date
5. Open the first image in the Viewer (double click on the first thumb)
6. Use the cursor keys to step through the set until the end

All images are there.

Am I doing something different? Maybe you used a different click path?

Hi Hert,

thank you for your fast answer.

I suspect this is an effect related to some special images (with strange timestamps). Is there any way to create or view logfiles that can help identify the problem?

What timestamp is used for sorting? I use
%dd.%mm.%yy %hh:%nn:%ss
as thumbnail style. Is this the date/time used for sorting?

You can use the default sorting, which is a lot faster than sorting with macro commands.

For sorting by Photo Date, PSU uses the photodate. This is determined as:
The general purpose "photo date" is constructed as:

first XMP's exif:DateTimeOriginal
if not exists XMP's exif:DateTimeDigitized
If not exists XMP's tiff:DateTime
if not exists EXIF's date time original
if not exists EXIF's date time digitized
if not exists EXIF's base date (0x132)
if not exists File Last Modification Date

This is what I use. I don't sort by macro.

Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to find the reason for this strange behaviour.
I always notice it best when I switch back (arrow left) and a different image appears than what I saw before. A restart resolve the problem.

Would a video help to analyse the issue?

What happens if for example the XMP's exif:DateTimeOriginal exists and are the same for two or more images?

Could the cameras have different clock settings - in particular I'm thinking either timezone or daylight saving time settings?

Secondary sort is on File Name.
