Questions about Versions

Post by Thargor »

Hi,
i am in the evaluation phase switching from my DAM to photo supreme and have a few questions about Versioning (unfortunately you cannot use "versions" as search term in the forum). I read the docs but didn't find an answer.

1) When i changed my version set settings, i need to destroy the versions and apply "Version detection" again. Is this correct?
2) I am not shure how to archieve the following: I want to see the edited version as as thumbnail in the folder/catalogue view. Do I need to set the "edited version" as the "main version" because always the main version is shown in front? Or is the "album view" shown in front? I don't understand the logic behind and can't find it out by experimenting.
3) When i use the setting "As a set in categories" the versions are shown side-by-side in the folders view. Is there no way to switch to the stacked view?
4) When I change metasettings like ratings, when are the changes written back to the file? Do I need to do this manually by "Save metadata to file" or is this done automatically?
5) What is the behaviour concerning metadata and versions. If i add a label to a version and write metadata back, is that label written in the file only for the single version file or for all files in the set? Do I need to use the "Cascade to version set" function everytime i want to have labels in all version files?

Thank you very much!

Those are interesting questions, but some answers will depend on the "Synchronize Settings" chosen in PSu preferences.

Do the files you group inside a version set have the same name apart from the extension (for example XYZ.txt and XYZ.jpg) or not ?

For example there a sets with "xyz.jpg" "xyz_DxO.jpg"
or version sets with "abc.raf" "abf.jpg" and "abc_DxO.jpg"

The answer to #4 depends on the preference settings. You have the choice to "Automatically write out catalog changes to the files" or not

As far as I know the answer to #5 is that the labels are written to all members of the set, the stars are not, and the details are written to all members of the set only if you check the relevant option.

That seems ok for me. But what option?

Thank you very much!

All the Preference settings are on the gear icon lower left corner which gives you

Maybe a Google search will help:

That seems ok for me. But what option?
Select a picture and click on "Details" in the bottom of the screen,
a panel will appear that allows you to modify a bunch of XMP fields,
the changes will apply to the main version only if you select the relevant option in the bottom of the panel
and click OK.
