Wow. Just realised that any modification made in PSU (v7.4.1.4613) which writes to XMP destroys Adobe Camera Raw settings. I was experimenting with using Bridge/ACR (Bridge 2023) yesterday, and having finished adjusting a session of > 100 images, I then went into PSU to version TIFFs with raws, and do some keywording.
When I reopened Bridge this morning, everything in the folder was wiped, ACR settings, ratings, labels, only survivor was Bridge Stacks. This includes images I did NOT TOUCH in PSU.
Is this by design? I can understand that there could be a conflict with labels & ratings (a quick check now shows me that PSU just overwrites these), and yes, I've got "Automatically write Catalog changes" checked, but ACR settings? Surely that part of the XMP file should not be touched? Have I missed some obscure preference?
PSU wipes XMP ACR settings?
Re: PSU wipes XMP ACR settings?
PSU manages XMP in its catalog and syncs that with the file system.
Adobe Bridge writes its editing parameters in the XMP and saves that to the file system.
After making edits you should verify the folder so that PSU finds the changes in the metadata.

Re: PSU wipes XMP ACR settings?
So PSU does not access individual fields in the XMP, but replaces the whole file? Why would it do that? Surely that misses a fundamental point of XML?
So, I get a much better metadata editor in PSU, but if I want to use XMP sidecars to maintain ACR edits, I can't use it, or at least I cannot export the metadata to a common XMP file? Surely I've got that wrong?

With DAM, the truth is in the catalog. Hence, the XMP in the catalog is always leading.david mantripp wrote: 04 Nov 22 14:28So PSU does not access individual fields in the XMP, but replaces the whole file? Why would it do that? Surely that misses a fundamental point of XML?
I can recommend Peter Krogh's "The DAM Book" to learn more about the DAM fundamentals.
Make the edits, and let Bridge update the XMP. Then use PSU's Verify Folder Quick command (right click on the folder) to find and read the changes back to the catalogI want to use XMP sidecars to maintain ACR edits, I can't use it, or at least I cannot export the metadata to a common XMP file?
