You probably know that you can use the <Insert> keyboard shortcut to add a catalog label as the child of the selected catalog label. But did you know that you can use <Alt+Insert> to add a catalog label as the sibling of the selected label?

You obviously know that you can find all images associated to a folder or a catalog item by simply clicking on that item in the Catalog or Folders view. But did you know that you could just as easily find all images not associated to a catalog item by simply ALT-clicking on that item?

To specify hierarchical exclusion, make sure you click on the item counter (like in the case of hierarchical inclusion).

Did you know that you can hover the mouse over the thumbnail's counter icon to see the assigned catalog labels (as space permits)? And did you know that you can click on those catalog labels to open them on-the-spot?

Did you know that you can edit or delete a saved Detail Profile by right clicking on its name?

The manuals in the application is the complete set. All the manuals on the website are also in the app, except for the two technical manuals: macros and maintenance.

There's no manual for Portfolios, not in the application, not online. Portfolios are described in the Cataloging manual.
The AI manual is available in the application and on the website.

All the manuals (website or in app) link to the same PDF document.

Do you know what your favorite photog day is? Or what your favorite photog month is?
A hidden gem in PSU is that you can easily find this out by using the Memories section of the Timeline.

As you can see here, my favorite photog days are in the weekend, and my favorite months are the Summer months.

Tip: you can also drag these to the Dynamic Search to combine it in searches

Are you assigning the same Catalog Label over and over again then the fastest way to do that is to assign a keyboard shortcut to it.

I almost forgot about this little diamond...there is a script that allows you to draw a Category Bar on the thumbnail that indicates how many labels of what category are assigned to the thumbs.

Here's how:

Try the bracket searches in v2023 and higher:

Here's a sample for the Search Box:

Code: Select all

(jack AND baby) NOT (susan OR john)

Did you know that you can select multiple items from the left Catalog Tree to combine them in one result?

To select multiple items, keep the Ctrl key (Windows) or Cmd key (macOS) pressed.

Did you know that you can change the background color in the Image Viewer to several tints of gray? Right click in the Viewer and select the Background Color option from its Context Menu

The quickest way to create an area for a face is by hovering the mouse over the face and then press E on the keyboard to create a new area.

PS. For this to work you don't need a Google API key because the face area detection for this runs locally.

If you need to enter special characters then in an editing field, you can press and hold the key for such special character. That will give you a selection of possible alternatives for the key pressed.
For example, when "pressing and holding" the S key you'll get this option list to quickly replace the s character.

PS. translated with Google translate as my German level is almost non existing. Sorry if the translation is off :D

Most of us know that you can create Favorites. But did you know that you can also drag/drop thumbnails to such favorite items?

Ever wanted to browse through your entire Catalog using some conditions? For example...browse the Catalog but only for one camera model, or browse the Catalog for one year, or for all images that have a specific set of labels assigned, or only one specific file type?

You can achieve that (and more) using the Catalog Filter. I highly recommend to give that a spin.
Here's a sample of a Catalog Filter that only shows the Catalog for images from 2023 and 2024...
