As mentioned in another thread I am building a new PC following the failure of the motherboard on my old one.
I've decided to do a clean import from the photo folders on my disk which I have moved to my new PC as the previous databases had got in a bit of a mess with folders being deleted or files moved (outside of PS).
Will PS by default extract the metadata from the .xmp sidecars associated with each raw file (I had set PS to create XMP for all file types) or will I have to apply specific configuration on the import to catalog?

Re: Import with xmp sidecars
Not to worry - I did a sample import with default settings and all my metadata was recovered from the XMPs nicely.
Re: Import with xmp sidecars
Start a new database and before import, in preference/synchro/read, select "Read IDimageID". After import unselect it.
This improve the creation of the structure of your categories : with default configuration, PSu write IDimager info in the XMP. (more info : ask Hert
So, if you want a clean new database with same categories, it's easy.
