unable to remove former hierarchical lightroom keyword structures in RAW Files

Post by Ulrich »

Hi there,

I'm getting more and more into PhotoSupreme, but I'm still struggeling with some really ugly metadata (hierarchical keyword) problems.

Briefly about the background of the problem:
I switched from Lightroom and photoshop to a combination of PhotoSupreme and Capture One.
Accordingly, I have many thousands of photos from the last years that contain metadata edited by Lightroom.
The keyword structure I have used so far is currently no longer as suitable as it was in the past, which is why I want to change it.

The problem:
Hierarchical keywords used in RAW-Fies with Lightroom cannot be deleted by PhotoSupreme/CaptureOne (with my knowledge).

In PhotoSupreme, hierarchical keywords from Lightroom (stored in the XMP - AdobeLightgroom section) are not visible.
Instead, I only see my new structure there, which I recreated with photoSupreme.

Then I open the picture for the first time with CaptureOne to adjust the photo.
CaptureOne now recognizes the former hierarchical Lightroom keywords and loads it into the keyword list (since it is currently 'missing' there).

The attempt to delete it in Capture One then fails because Lightroom has written the keywords into the DNG files,
but Capture One does not change RAW-Files (DNG's), only reads them.
I.e. I delete the keyword in Capture One and it is immediately reloaded by Capture One, since it is still in the DNG file.

If I now close Capture One and look at the picture again in PhotoSupreme, the old keyword structure is then also visible here, since CaptureOne has now additionally stored it under the 'regular' keywords.

The whole evil seems to come from the XMP section 'AdobeLightroom' and the 'HierarchicalSubject' keywords there.
Since CaptureOne does not change the DNGs, I have no chance to delete these keywords there.
In PhotoSupreme I don't seem to see these Lightroom section keywords regularly.

Does anyone have an idea how to completely delete this section in all DNG and corresponding XMP files (e.g. via script)?
I am a little bit desperate about these old structures.

Help would be wonderful.
Many greetings
Ulrich

Not sure what you mean with an "AdobeLightroom" section. I assume you mean lr:hierarchicalSubject

Photo Supreme fully supports the lr:hierarchicalSubject in XMP...unless you changed the default sync settings to not read/write hierarchical keywords.

In short:
1. IMPORTANT: leave all the sync settings at their default. Did you change them? Then click the button to revert to the defaults.
2. Import an image that has lr:hierarchicalSubject. The hierarchical keywords appear as catalog labels in PSU
3. Save the metadata to file (right click -> Metadata -> Save metadata to file), and the lr:hierarchicalSubject field will be updated.

Tip; also read the Cataloging manual

Hello Hert,

OK, thank you for your advice.
Yes, the setting was off, not by intention, but it was off.
Furthermore I had to set the setting to allow RAW-File writing. I wasn't aware about these settings.
So, the keywords were shown in Photosupreme and I was able to delete them and rewrite them to the DNG's there.
Back in Capture One the old keyword structure was still there and even re-reading the file doesn't delete them, but now I could delete them there manually as well (because they are no longer in the DNG's).
But this is an C1 problem.

Thank you very much!
