I found a few old threads back in 2015, but no solutions - it seems this should just work.
I have Adobe Reader as the default program for PDFs, display thumbnails in Win Explorer ticked in the Reader prefs.
Thumbs display in Win Explorer, but not in PSU, tried rebuild thumbnail, build missing thumbs to no avail.
Can't get thumbnails to work for PDFs

Hi,
You have added .pdf to the file list in 'preferences - File handling'?

But explorer doesn't create thumbnails for them?
You can pre-view them if you have that panel turned on but that is done by reading the file selected, but the icon remains the Adobe Icon not a thumbnail of the contents of each file, at least that's what has always happened here ?

Re: Can't get thumbnails to work for PDFs
Windows doesn't generate PDF thumbnails "out of the box". Adobe Reader will do it, but I use Sumatra PDF Viewer to do the same thing. Once working from Windows Explorer, PSu should also display the thumbnails of each file correctly.
Have correct options turned on but no luck
apologies to all for my delay - email notifications hasn't been updating me .
to Horst -
yes PDFs have and always were selected in file handling (like others it worked in IDI but not in PSU, my old IDI previews are there)
to Geoff
Win Explorer is creating thumbnails ( with the Adobe Reader "Enable PDF thumbnails previews in Win Explorer "option turned on
To Andrew
Agree - it should but not for me - I will have a look at Sumatra PDF Viewer - does it need to be set as default viewer?
Lastly - the only thing I can think of is that I also have Wondershare PDFElement for editing pdfs, however this does not affect Win Explorer from displaying thumbnails.

Finally got thumbnails to work for PDFs
Update - finally got PDF thumbs to work.
I uninstalled Reader DC, installed a trial copy of Acrobat DC, uninstalled that and re-installed Reader DC and set the appropriate pref for thumbnails.
Possibly something in the registry wasn't working right

I only have Sumatra PDF Viewer, so yes for me it's the default. But I read you've solved your problem anyway. Well done.BrianS wrote: 26 Aug 21 5:20 Agree - it should but not for me - I will have a look at Sumatra PDF Viewer - does it need to be set as default viewer?
