I am a new user of PSU and a fairly new user of DXO PhotoLab 4. For some reason .DOP & .XMP sidecar files aren't being saved with the my .CR3 images. I have looked several times at PSU Preferences and don't see any settings pertaining to them. I have also searched online and in the Forum but I don't find an answer. Hopefully I'm doing something wrong instead of that being a 'feature' of PSU.
Thanks for any assistance on this. And BTW I really like PSU!
Cheers,
Rod
.DOP & .XMP files
Re: .DOP & .XMP files
Hello Rod,
I have the same set-up as you. When you say "saved" - what exactly do you mean?

Re: .DOP & .XMP files
Hi Sigi - Thanks very much for responding. "Saved" was the wrong word to use. I should have said they aren't visible. In Windows Explorer I can see .dop and .xmp files but they don't show in PSU - only the cr3, jpg, tiff, etc files show. I Have tried the various Verify options and also the options settings in File Handling/DXO Support.

Re: .DOP & .XMP files
Hello Rod, dop or .xmp are "container files" that are not displayed (by any program). Only single contents, like the mostly embedded jpg or the technical data of the camera etc. are read out.
In Windows Explorer you only see the presence of these files.
PSU uses the content of the files as far as possible and applies all file related commands to it.
Delete a RAW file and also the .xmp and .dop are deleted or moved to the trash (after those settings).
I hope it has become a little clearer.

Re: .DOP & .XMP files
Hi BertiIrmo - Thanks very much for your explanations.
I'm not looking for the contents of the dop or xmp files, only their presence. If I do a copy, move or delete of the CR3 files from within PSU it would be helpful and reassuring to see that what I requested has been accomplished. And of course it would be nice to know that they are there before I do any file actions. Otherwise I need to open Windows Explorer to confirm these which doesn't feel like it should be necessary in a great DAM like PSU.

Re: .DOP & .XMP files
You can use custom thumb info for that.

Re: .DOP & .XMP files
Hi Hert - Thanks very much for your graphic explanation. After I click on Sidecar File Extension List it shows the presence of an XMP file in the thumbnail. But it does not show the presence of a dop file. Is there something else I need to do?
Rod
Added on Edit: For some reason when I now go back to the thumbnail settings per your instructions it does not show From Repository in the list. There are now seven choices instead of the 13 choices in your graphic.

Re: .DOP & .XMP files
Fixed that now. Please reselect it from the repository. But it does not show the presence of a dop file.
"From Repository" is only shown when:it does not show From Repository in the list
1. There's an active internet connection
2. You can the Repository enabled in the Preferences (default is enabled)
3. You didn't block PSU in your firewall from connecting to the internet

Re: .DOP & .XMP files
Hi Hert - xmp & dop both show now after I reselected from the Repository. Thanks very much for fixing that and for doing it so promptly! It's really nice to now be able to confirm the presence of those files from within PSU
When I went to reselect From Repository the choice was in the dropdown list. After I did that and went back to choose it again it was no longer there. The 3 items in your requirement list were met. I closed PSU, reopened it and From Repository was there again. Perhaps this is normal behaviour. I just tried it again a few times without restarting PSU and each time From Repository showed. Odd!
Hert, I want to thank you for developing such a fine DAM. As I discover more and more of its power and features I appreciate all the effort you have put into it over the years!
