Labels and synchronising problems

Post by Anthony »

I have been using Idimager and Photo Supreme for many years and I recently noticed problems that make it very difficult to work with.

Firstly, the Synchronize Service hangs repeatedly. It gets stuck on 0.0% or gets so far and then hangs. This happens on a few or when trying to sync many images. Sometimes closing and restarting the software helps, but sometimes not. PS does not show any CPU or disk activity when this happens - just memory usage.

Very strangely I have recently had the problem of all the labels in every image in some folders are being applied to all the images in that folder. I have not knowingly done this and it is really frustrating to try to correct this, especially as the hanging synching process is also creating problems.

I have noticed over the past year that access violations have become more common. I always send them on, as I appreciate the developers need this information, but again it is another frustration.

I think Photo Supreme is great, but unfortunately the current problems mean that it is nearly unusable.

I am running version 5.6.0.3366, on a Ryzen 3700X (GIGABYTE X570 AORUS PRO), with 32 GB memory, GTX 1050Ti and Windows and Photo Supreme are running on SSDs. I have 130761 images in the database. I would think on my system, it should be super responsive, but maybe I have too many images?

Hi Anthony,
Try this:
1. Close psu
2. Delete the \\hkcu\software\IDimager Systems, Inc key in the registry
3. Start PSU
4. Try it now. No luck?
5. Reset all sync preferences
6. Try again.

Any success?

The scripts mentioned there are now also available from within the application:

I followed Hert's advice above, but the problem still persists. The Sync Write Direct script did work for individual files and showed something like 0.28 seconds per image, but was not reliable on multiple files.

What I also did do was turn off the "Automatically write out Catalog changes to the file", which at least gives me control over what is going on. I then went through the two folders of files and corrected the catalog labels (which was a pain, but nice to go through the images!). I then snyched the files in groups and sometimes the synching worked and sometimes it just hung. There seemed to be no relation to the number of files synching. I would then have to close Photo Supreme and reopen it to complete the synching. This is a manageable, but not ideal.

What worries me though, is how did the assignment of all the labels in all the images in a folder get synched to every image in that folder? Correcting this takes ages and in some cases is very hard to do.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I thought I was having a fat finger issue when I too noticed labels assigned to images that had nothing to do with those images. Don't know is it is related to the sync freezing or a separate but related issue or something totally unrelated.

The freezing is starting to rear its ugly head again after I thought it had disappeared. In the Synchronize Service notification area in the lower right, it shows 0.0% not progress bar and the name of a file, in this case a CR2. Since raw files have their metadata in am XMP sidecar, I went and had a look at it. It's there with the previous values and has not been updated.

After closing and reopening PSU, the metadata was saved via Crtl-S. When I looked again, I see that the XMP files are in the form of <filename>.xmp.idi_backup.xmp.
New metadata updates made via the automatic write process don't produce these types of xmp files.
Now when it freezes, I see both the regular xmp and the version with .idi_backup.xmp

Just to say that since updating to 3374, synching is now behaving itself and has completed everytime and nothing strange has happened.

Thanks Hert

What is "Sync REad direct" and "Synd Write direct" actually doing?

The same as right click -> Metadata -> "Read metadata from file" and "Save metadata to file", but then it also benchmarks the time spent to do so. In other words you can get a reference of how fast your system performs and when reported here, you can compare with others.

Thank you. Just tried it. It takes 0,5 sec. per image to to a "Write" this is on an imac, late 2012, Catalina
