anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
It is not a single file, but synchronizing large amounts of images (> 100) no longer works. The process initially goes fast, but eventually simply stalls. There is definitely something odd going on with syncing and versions...
Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
I have also noticed the same thing when I select all of the Out of Sync images from the States tab and then select Save Metadata to file. When there are many, >1000 images, the process eventually stalls and doesn't go to zero. If I then re-select the remaining images and do the same thing, it continues processing. Sometimes it takes a third effort to get it all the way down to zero. i don't have any versions set so that is not interfering with my dataset.
Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
Yes I have been having this problem as well, just not able to reliably reproduce it, compacting and restarting the program seems to affect the duration/count of files before it stops apparently working, not always sure if its merely updating of the screen that is affected as on restarting I notice that the unsynced count drops significantly as though its been working behind the scenes but not updated the screen ?

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
I also have problems with verifying folders. After having verified a folder I chose export data to file for (~10-20) changed images. The synchronize service starts but does not show any progress. It can be terminated by pressing "x". Subsequent verification of the folder gives the same number of changed images.

Try this. Find the file in PSU, then press Ctrl+S (win) or Cmd+S (macOS) to save the changes to the file

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
Hi Hert,
Ctrl+S works fine. The problem occurs only when verifying a folder.

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
That is not entirely accurate. I believe synchronizing large amounts of image files really is the culprit here.Ctrl+S works fine. The problem occurs only when verifying a folder.
Adding large amounts of folders with their images may result in hundreds or thousands of images being added to the catalog. These images then all need to be synchronized. And at some point synchronizing thousands of photos simply freezes the program and the whole process completely stalls.
CTRL+S works just fine on a limited amount of images, but as soon as you try synchronizing a few hundred images the program simply freezes up.
Thus Verify is not the problem per se, but it the synchronizing routine, which is part of the process...
Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
I have tried for a small number of files (~20) only. Sync unsynced images worked for ~70 files.

More sync woes
Filtering for images without a label in one folder, I selecti 1 to 10 images at a time, I apply labels. usually I see the progress bar advancing and the specific image name underneath. then suddenly, I've got 5 images selected and there is no progress bar and instead of an image name it says "synchronizing." It's been at 0.0% for more than five minutes. It is doing something since IDImageerSU.exe is using 0.2% of my CPU.
How do I unjam the sync process? Stopping the sync service with the X and restarting it doesn't do anything.

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
Kill PSU and run the script below in the Scripter (Tools -> Scripter) to reset the sync system. Then restart PSU
Code: Select all
<<hert: removed the script>>

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
a new synchronizing jam and so i ran the above script. I got the "Done" but nothing else happened. Synchronizing is still at 0.0% Only closing PSU and opening it again seems to cure this, until the next time.
Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
After running the script, restart, and try to sync again. If that doesn't help then it's not the sync system giving you issues

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
Hmmm, restarting PSU always fixes the issue so does that mean the sync-system itself is not the issue? Is something else preventing the sync-system from working as it should?
An easy fix but this detour is becoming old real fast. Going to have to get into the habit of doing a program backup before I accept an update so that a roll back will be easier to do.

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
When an update arrives that makes database changes and you then start that version for the first time then you will be warned that the database will be updated and you're advised to make a backup. No need to create a backup for an update that doesn't alter the database (no warning on first start of that update).Going to have to get into the habit of doing a program backup before I accept an update so that a roll back will be easier to do.
I'd be very surprised if the sync-system itself leads to a stall of the application.Hmmm, restarting PSU always fixes the issue so does that mean the sync-system itself is not the issue?
After running the script above, will it still stall? If so try:
1. Don't click anywhere while the progress runs. No difference? then try:
2. Keep the progress box closed (upper right icon in the progress box) and then sync

Re: anyone having problems with Verify Folders for Files?
The only thing that seems to work most of the time is to just close PSU and then open it again. Then I can sync any images that were not snyced the last time.
Another thing, when starting PSU, I never know how long to wait before starting any action. If I go too soon, the program becomes unresponsive and only a forced shutdown will close it. Seems like whatever it is doing at the start doesn't like to be interrupted.
Even though Task manager doesn't show any PSU activity, the Resource monitor shows IDImageSU.exe suspended.
