Geo Panel: only main version (JPG) is GeoTagged with GPS coordinates not the dependent (RAW)

Post by Jessy »

Hello, I shoot Raw+Jpg. I import pictures in Photo Supreme using versioning with JPG as Main and RAW as Dependent.

JPGs metadata are embedded, RAWs metadata are in a sidecar file (.XMP) which is Photo Supreme default behavior.

ISSUE: When I GeoTag (GPS + Location) one or several pictures at the same time, the JPGs are correctly tagged but the RAWs only have the Location/City/State/Code/Country fields updated. The 3 GPS coordinates fields remain empty. When I directly GeoTag (GPS + Location) the Dependent RAW file, it works correctly.

Is it the normal behavior? If yes, why and could a script copy JPGs GPS coordinates to RAWs?

In any case this behavior is a problem as :
1. I follow my GeoTag progress with the key "NotGeoTagged" of the Status tab but it's all messed up counting even the Geotagged JPGs has not Geotagged (since the set is partially NotGeoTagged due to the RAW only not being GeoTagged)
2. I have half of my pictures without GPS coordinates when I took the time to update them :-(.

Any help appreciated, thank you and Happy New year!

Welcome Jessy.

GPS
When GPS coordinates are applied to a version set, then they are only applied to the single visible image, not to the set. This is by design, but I'm not sure why. There have been various requests to change it to be (optionally) applied to the full set, such as this one that I proposed: https://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=2367 (logon required).

However, if you hover over the tab of the image with the coordinates, a downward arrow will appear after a few moments. You can then select to cascade (copy) metadata to the other images in the version set:

You can select multiple version sets and do this in bulk.

Location
Not sure why that is partially applied to other images in the version set. I imagine it's not supposed to. Although, like GPS data, it would be useful if it did. It doesn't cascade properly either - it's not a feature I use, but I've just tested it. Perhaps someone with coding skills can help you with a script.

You can log bugs at http://mantis.idimager.com.

Workaround for RAW-only shooters
The workaround to the above for RAW-only shooters is to apply the GPS & location details (and anything else) to the RAW file, then generate JPGs from that (with metadata already present). See also viewtopic.php?f=57&t=23786#p109017
