Finding places names that have no Geo Location data

Post by Roman »

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to search for catalog place names that do not have "Geo Location" data assigned to them?

Can you explain a bit more what you mean Roman? For example if you have place names set up as labels in the catalog (this would normally be under the "Places" top level label, and probably using a heirarchy) and assign images to one of these labels, then these can be searched as normal; and search can pick up names elsewhere in the metadata too (such as in descriptions, I think, without testing, such that a placename in a description or headline would be picked up by a search)... but I suspect I may be missing the point and not answering your real question?

As with snowman1, I also don't fully understand the question. Snowman1's response is excellent for finding images. But it could also be interpreted that you'd like to find catalog labels. Since that looked like a nice request, I created this script:

Sorry for not responding sooner snowman1 and Hert, I have been without internet access for a few days.
Sorry that my question was ambiguous but I wanted to list catalog place entries that did not have any location (lat/long) data assigned and Hert's script provides exactly what I asked for, thank you very much for creating it Hert!
If I could ask for one little change the script will be perfect. I would like the script prompt you to select whether you wish to list entries with, or without, lat/long data? (I tried to work out what I needed to change in the script in order to achieve this but I am a bit worried about making a mistake and ending up deleting database content by accident).
I also found that the bottom right "OK" and "Cancel" buttons do not appear to work.
Once again, thank you for your assistance Hert.

This tool is very useful, but is there a way to add the missing coordinate data for catalog labels (in bulk, rather than doing it manually for each label), perhaps by importing a text file with the relevant info?
