batch file format conversion fails to save metadata

I have a lot of scanned tif images that have been cataloged with names, places and dates. I wanted to create high quality jpg copies of these with the same catalog information. I used the batcher, selected file conversion, told it the folder I wanted the new images in, selected the jpg quality 100%, checked the box for include metadata. I ran the batch.

It did create the new images, in the proper folder, but included none of the catalog metadata in the new jpg versions.

Is there a way to get the catalog metadata included in the new jpg images?

Did I misunderstand how the batch file conversion should work? Should it actually create jpg copies of my catalog labeled tiff images with the catalog labels if I mark the box in the file conversion setup to "write metadata if available"?

i have over 5k images scanned to tiff from old family albums. These have been edited as tiff, imported into photo supreme and catalog labeled with names and places. I would like to get jpg copies of these files with catalog labels for distribution to family members. I do not want to have to manually copy the catalog labels from the tiff images to the jpg copies.

Is there any way to do this in Photo Supreme?

Just trying to understand: why would you need to do this? Assuming that the files are derived from originals that already contained the metadata, why would you need to tell PSU to write those data to the derivative files again?

You assume that the original TIFs already contain metadata, and I assume they don't. Hence my question, because if they are not sync'ed then topic starter is trying to create JPGs from TIFs without metadata....which results in JPGs without metadata.

I am still investigating and testing (on day 2 of my 30 day trial) but I can add some detail to this issue.

I have some TIF files with metadata all populated, including faces. Once I convert to jpg, the metadata is there, but the face/region info is not. So I've lost the people identification, but everything else seems to be there.

I'm still looking into it - the face info was added TO the tif files when I was using picasa, windows live gallery, and verified/updated in the recent version of imatch (yeah, I'm still trying to find the DAM of my dreams).

I'll have more details later today once I look more deeply, but the difference is that the TIF files have the face info in a "regions" area, and the JPG files do not. I'll need to go back into imatch to get the full xmp name, but in XNView that's the difference that I'm seeing.

yes, the tiff files are synced in PSU. The information is written to the tiff files and can be read with exiftool.

My family members can handle jpg files, but would not know what to do with the tif files. I want to distribute the jpg files to the family for that reason primarily. Secondarily, even highest quality jpg files will be smaller than the tiff files. I would like the metadata to be in the distributed jpg files so they can identify family members and places that they may not know. Not all parts of the family know all the others.

I just tried it here and see no issues. When converting to a different file format (JPG in my case) and when the TIF image is in sync (verified with ExifTool that catalog labels are in the TIF image as dc:subject) and when the option to write metadata to the file in the File Format Conversion settings is ticked...then the created JPG also has the dc:subject
