Versioning images located in differnt folders

Post by gkaudewitz »

Hello together,

I'm new with PSU and looking for a way to do versioning for images that are located in different folders. I need them to be placed in different folders as I have different accessrights for that folders. Versioning can't be done at import because of my workflow with external applications.

Best regards

If the folders are in a hierarchical tree with the main version nearer the root, then automatic versioning will work. For example, versioning will find SubVersions for the MainVersion below:

|_MainVersion
  • |_SubVersion1
    • |_SubVersion2
No doubt due to the processing that would be involved, PSU doesn't version files that aren't in such a relationship (except versions in the same folder as the MainVersion). However if you version the files first and then move them (within PSU) to somewhere unrelated, they will stay versioned. Though they'll also be harder to locate if someone later moves them using other software.

Thanks for the Information concering the sub-Folder structure but concering accessrights the structure forms different Independent trees for for the usergroups.

Then versioning files and them moving them is probably the only option.

However is it necessary to use independent trees to control access? I presume that you are using the server version if you have multiple users, which I imagine would allow users to be assigned different access rights within the same tree?
