Migrating from WLPG (Windows Essentials Photo Gallery)
Migrating from WLPG (Windows Essentials Photo Gallery)
I have fallen at the first hurdle.
I am looking to migrate from WLPG and am trying out Photo Supreme.
After adding some photos I see that all the existing "tags" (keywords) have been put as separate items with no hierarchy under Miscellaneous in the Catalog. The WLPG tag hierarchy uses / as the hierarchy separator but Photo Supreme has completely ignored the hierarchy (even where the top level matches existing top-level labels such as People, Events and Places).
Obviously I want to retain my existing hierarchy if possible. I assume I could recreate it in Photo Supreme by dragging and dropping and renaming but that is impractical for my very large number of labels. The "Quick Start - Cataloging" help document mentions import "Profiles". Might they help? If so I need guidance, please.

Thanks for the advice! "Read hierarchical keywords (if available)" was ticked but not "Read delimited keywords".
What is a hierarchical keyword that is not delimited? Is it explained somewhere in the help files?

barneagle,
there is a "Tips" icon on the upper left side - click it and then hover over the settings you want to get more info...
Very useful for beginners and even for advanced users! PSU is very complex, but the learning curve is not too steep.
After a while an when everything is setup right, your workflow might be like one two three... Hope that helps...

Re: Migrating from WLPG (Windows Essentials Photo Gallery)
I've seen in the Quick Start Cataloging document the explanation of the interaction between "hierarchical" and "delimited" in relation to writing but I'm not sure how they work for reading. Is it perhaps that the hierarchical check box determines whether the lr: HierarchicalSubject keyword is ignored, while if the delimited check box is ticked the content of dc:Subject will be treated as hierarchical (only if the hierarchical check box is also ticked)?
I've only just seen your reply about Tips. Thanks. I must read the Help documents more diligently. I've been trying to run before I can walk!

That is correct.barneagle wrote:Is it perhaps that the hierarchical check box determines whether the lr: HierarchicalSubject keyword is ignored,
Correct.while if the delimited check box is ticked the content of dc:Subject will be treated as hierarchical...
Afaik, you don't need to tick the hierarchical check box in order to read the delimited keywords in dc:Subject(only if the hierarchical check box is also ticked)?
Re: Migrating from WLPG (Windows Essentials Photo Gallery)
Is there a keyboard shortcut to put the focus in the Description tag so that I can move from picture to picture and enter descriptions (captions) without my hands leaving the keyboard? I can see shortcuts to open the Info panel or Details panel but not to move the focus. The only mention of keyboard focus in the Shortcuts Help document is Ctrl-Alt-L to open the Assign panel with focus on the Search box.
Re: Migrating from WLPG (Windows Essentials Photo Gallery)
If you are going to stay within a field (such as Description) from picture to picture and want to move to the next picture: Alt-right arrow or Alt-left arrow, depending on which direction you want to go in. For this to work, the field you want to work in must have the focus initially.

Re: Migrating from WLPG (Windows Essentials Photo Gallery)
Thanks for that advice. That will be useful. However, I can add keywords, ratings and color labels without my hands leaving the keyboard and it would be good to be able to switch in and out of Description editing as well.

You can always file a feature request in Mantis.
Re: Migrating from WLPG (Windows Essentials Photo Gallery)
OK. I shall. (... assuming Mantis ever send me the promised activation email!)
