I had a PSu crash today in the current build 2075, Windows 10 Pro.

1. Display a manually sorted Portfolio Collection
2. Right click the Portfolio Collection title
3. Select "Lock Collection"
4. Photo Supreme shows 'Not Responding' in window title bar.

The same thing happens when 'unlocking' the collection.

After restarting Photo Supreme, the collection does show as 'locked' (red icon)

When collection is unlocked, and after restarting the application, the collection is unlocked (no icon) and I can add/remove images from the collection.

I had use Task Manager to kill the application in both cases.

Has this happened to any of you?

Bug Report filed at Mantis today: http://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=3021. Please add a note if you are having the same issue. Thanks.

Preston,

I would be willing to bet that that bug is related to the other two bugs in the Portfolio system already listed in Mantis. The same thing happens when I try to rename a Collection or to move its position up or down among the other Collections. I have never locked a Collection, so I had not come upon the issue you described.

Not exactly, but I worked most of the weekend to catch up with a backlog due to this crashing problem. Weekend and also today, crashing maybe 15x a day !!! I see a pattern when opening new folders for imports (on Mac). PSu locks up. On the second attempt it mostly works.
More details here:

Never say never change, but using Mac since 2005. Photo Supreme 3.3.0.2605. I endorse the interoperability of files between applications and systems.

Mike--

This could be related to the other two bugs. I just tried to move a portfolio collection up in a listing, and PSu locked up. After looking at the bug report, it appears this may be an issue with Win 10.

Hi Preston. I just performed your 4 steps but PSu didn't crash. I am using the same Psu version & Windows version as you.

Hi All,

I ran a quick test locking and then unlocking portfolio collections:

1. On a collection sorted by file name, PSu did not crash.

2. On a collection manually sorted, PSu did not crash.

So, the issue I reported earlier in this thread may have been a one-off. If it happens again, I'll report back.

I just now tried locking and unlocking a Portfolio Collection and the system crashed and behaved exactly as Preston described in his message posted March 21.

Back to the original question - how often does PSu crash - in the last version I have noticed doing a "Verify Folder" operation (my standard way of importing new files) now crashes maybe 1 in 5 times. Using current build 2075, 64 bit Windows 10 Home. The PSu user interface completely locks up with Verification, Synchronize and Building Thumbnails services all sitting on 0%. Task manager shows PSu using 0% CPU. PSu used to be more reliable than this ;-(

I think I read in another thread somewhere that Hert's highest priority is stability, that is, eliminating lockups. I'm sure that quashing bugs is also also a very high priority. If I'm right, then Hert is focusing on those issues rather than adding new features. Every new feature is a potential source of instability or bugs. Every new feature, including an new option for an existing feature, increases the amount of testing that has to be done for every release.

Great! My work is cyclical but my freezes have been lower since:
Renewing the registry file
Minimizing the number of open tabs, which PSu needs to deal with after a freeze.

Stephen, I don't recall how many tabs I had open at the time of that crash, but I will be mindful of that. Thanks!

Renewing the registry file
I think Stephen talks about deleting PSu's registry file. That is only possible if PSu has been configured to write the registry settings into a separate file (see http://www.senoiaphoto.com/psu). Else you'd have to edit your computer's registry, which is probably not a good idea.
BTW - deleting that registry file is not a great idea either: you'll loose all your own, specific user-settings. It may be a last resort, if PSu constantly crashes. I don't think it is generally good advice. A lot of things can go wrong if you suddenly "drive" PSu using its default settings, when you previously have "driven" it for quite a while with your own configuration...

Cheers,
Frank
