I need some re-date panel advice. (I am using version 3.0.3.2066 on Windows 8.1 so I cannot use the Apple Mac tool )
Background – I have scanned a few thousand negatives and now I would like to re-date these using the re-date panel, one after the other. I cannot batch this as the negatives were randomly placed in a big box and were not in sequence.
First question – I have noticed that the re-date panel (CTRL-SHIFT-D) only appears on the thumbnail view, not in the detail view. How do I make the re-date panel appear if I am in the detailed view after having double-clicked on a photo? (Reason for asking – some of the details in the photo are only visible after zooming in, and then I know more about what to enter for the date)
Second Question – If I have the re-date panel open, how do I get it to accept my changes without closing the panel and then jump to the next photo in the collection viewer? Firstly - the alt-right and alt-left arrow buttons do not seem to work in the same way that they do in the assign labels panel, and secondly clicking the “OK” button closes the panel (and you have to open the panel again for the next image)
To summarise the above – I would love to use the re-date panel in a similar way to the way the assign panel works.
My ideal workflow :
1) I want to launch the Re-date panel
2) I would like to double click the first image in the thumbnail view of the collection viewer, and have the detail view of the image appear.
3) After I redate the image, I want to click or press “next” or press “alt-arrow” to both save my changes and move to the next slide.
4) I would be nice if the date fields were bigger in size – easier to quickly click on.
5) Please can there be a shortcut for the “Flip” (this for negatives scanned upside down). The “[“ and “]” rotate shortcuts are already available.
6) Please can there be a "paste last" feature - that would paste the same dates as the previous image.
Thank you.
regards
Malcolm
Re-date Panel advice needed
Re: Re-date Panel advice needed
Hi Malcolm,
I may be wrong, but I don't think that's possible.

Vlad
I don't think that's possible, but perhaps you could adapt by invoking the quick preview (press the spacebar on the selected thumb) and then invoking the redating with CTRL-SHIFT-D. You may want to set your preview size accordingly. Another tip: you could significantly increase the thumbnail size as needed: View button + Zoom slider.First question – I have noticed that the re-date panel (CTRL-SHIFT-D) only appears on the thumbnail view, not in the detail view. You have a number of specific requests - I would suggest to enter them in Mantis, perhaps referencing this post for context. My ideal workflow :

Re: Re-date Panel advice needed
Hello Malcolm,
My whole set of slides and a large number of photos was dated using the re-date panel. And it is quite good when you get used to it.
Vlad is correct, re-date will not work when you have opened the image. A long time ago me and Hert had a discussion in Mantis about this, look at 1753 for some details.
Maybe I can give you a hint anyway. If you have a number of images you want to give the same date this can easily be done. All you have to do is to date one. Next you select the whole group and start with the one with the correct date. When you then do a C+S+D you will see the correct date and just have to go for OK. Of course you can also select the whole group and then enter the wanted date.
Regards, Harald

Malcolm,
Instead of using the Redate panel, you could use the Details panel to make your change. Doing so will allow you to view a larger image while working with the panel and the panel will stay open as you move from image to image.

Malcolm asked "I have noticed that the re-date panel (CTRL-SHIFT-D) only appears on the thumbnail view, not in the detail view"
It would be a small but excellent improvement for some. I asked once before a time time ago too.

Re: Re-date Panel advice needed
Was re-dating in Grid view using key combination ctrl+shift+D added in 3.0.3.2066? I notice it now works! Bravo.
Re: Re-date Panel advice needed
Thank you for the tips - I have submitted a feature request in Mantis.

Re: Re-date Panel advice needed
Malcolm,
I believe you refer to Mantis 0002804 with a list of requests. I agree with one or two but not the rest. It will be easier for me and other people to add their votes if you split this up in single requests. And it is probably also easier then for Hert to implement one or more.
Just a suggestion, Harald

I have taken your suggestion and created individual requests. 0002816, 0002817, 0002818, and 0002819 are now created out of the original 0002804 (which Hert said he would likely close).

Malcolm, which of your new Mantis tickets cover your above question. This is the one I am mostly interested inboatbldr wrote:I have noticed that the re-date panel (CTRL-SHIFT-D) only appears on the thumbnail view, not in the detail view.
