As someone still running a 1997 version of Lotus Organizer(!) I agree with you in principle, Mike. However I suspect that my 'needs' / expectations of most other classes of software would evolve at a much faster rate than this, resulting in a fairly limited practical software life once development stops.Mike Buckley wrote:Though I admittedly don't know nearly as much about software as almost everyone participating here, I really don't understand that logic. If I've been using any software for years because it has been meeting my needs, it's not as if all of a sudden it's going to stop working. If a program file becomes corrupted, I would simply reinstall the software.vlad wrote:I would personally be reluctant to use a software as complex as IDI or PSU if it was no longer supported by the developer

...and those both beat my 2002 program for file renaming. (It simply does its job, so I've never cared about updates, support or whatever.)Mike Buckley wrote:That beats my 2001 calendar program.Mke wrote:still running a 1997 version of Lotus Organizer(!)
(Mike, let me say this: I prefer to focus on the positive rather than the hypothetical negative. PSU has very good support from the developer, backed up by a knowledgeable and enjoyable community. I wouldn't want to lose those, but that possibility doesn't keep me awake at night. Life is too short to worry )
Re: syncing issues
Good choice, I kept running Organiser for years after IBM killed it off. Outlook's functionality then got better and better for contact and calendar management; but if you use it, as I did, for notes and/or tasks then can I ever-so-strongly recommend ToDoList (TDL)? It is absolutely brilliant, and free. I don't think I could survive without it - it's my to do list, my library of reference notes, everything! Thanks, I'll take a look! Guess I'll have to change software at some point in the next decade or two, but haven't yet found a satisfactory replacementsnowman1 wrote:I ever-so-strongly recommend ToDoList (TDL)?
