Why and how to use with Lightroom
Why and how to use with Lightroom
I would describe myself as an enthusiast, but distinctly non-professional. I am a happy Lightroom user. I know that Photo Supreme has a loyal user base, and if it can improve my experience, while playing well with Lightroom, I'm open to using it. I would be grateful for an understanding of how my workflow would work if I used both programs, and why the added complexity would be worth it. (Also, I downloaded the trial version and I note that when I click the button to open a photo in LR, I'm taken to the import dialog, whereas when I click the button to open a photo in PS, I'm taken to the photo, as I would have expected.) Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Re: Why and how to use with Lightroom
My strong recommendation is that you would use Lightroom only to edit the image content and that you would use Photo Supreme only to edit the metadata. If you don't restrict those two workflows to the respective programs, you can easily run into lots of troubles. That's especially true with regard to the complications that can arise when using both programs to edit the metadata.

Thanks for that, but what I'm not fully getting is what I get in exchange for the added complexity.

Re: Why and how to use with Lightroom
That's a great question that probably depends on the extent that you would use the cataloging and search functions. As an example, I'm convinced that relatively few photographers need to catalog their images; if they can find all of their photos quickly using a physical folder system, they don't need to catalog them. So, if you would explain your cataloging needs, people who are familiar with Supreme and Lightroom will probably be able to do a better job of helping you. I'm completely ignorant about Lightroom's cataloging and search capabilities, so you'll have to rely on others for those responses.
Re: Why and how to use with Lightroom
My cataloging needs are fairly simple. I use keywords and ratings. I have occasional needs to search, but usually I can find what I need through the folder structure.
Re: Why and how to use with Lightroom
Even if all you need is to tag your images, you may still benefit from the first-class labelling functionality in PSU. Defining, modifying and assigning label (keyword) hierarchies, relationships, sets, synonyms - it's all a breeze in PSU V3. For a keyword-heavy user, that aspect may be worth the entry price alone. (Besides, if you're looking to rationalize a PSU purchase, you could get plenty of good ideas from here.)
But don't let the hype replace your judgement: just try PSU and see for yourself what you gain.
