Rating & color label not ingested from NEF

Post by lulumine »

Trying to import NEF files with PSU v2.2.5 1044, I've just notice that ratings & color labels previously assigned with ViewNX2 (v2.10) are not recognized by PSU through the ingest process : is it a standard way of working or do I make something wrong?

Afaik, ViewNX writes the metadata embedded in the RAW file. Do you have PSU also configured to work with embedded metadata in the RAW files (Preferences -> File Handling)?

Very prompt anwser!

No I have'nt, believing this property only dedicated to write metadata into the file!

I've change it, close PSU and restart without any result.

By the way, if I check this option, does it mean that embedded metadata will be prefered any time to XMP sidecar (when not sync.)?

When this option is on, then no XMP sidecars are used for such RAW formats. PSU will then look for XMP and IPTC inside the image file itself, and will also write the XMP and IPTC embedded in the file (just like JPG, TIFF, DNG, PSD, ...).

Thanks for clear explanations.

But considering my ingest process, it seems not yet working with the option ticked...
NB : I've restart my computer, try old NEF files, force PSU to read metadata from file (Ctrl+Alt+S), but without any change.
I've also check that rating & color label are properly recorded (ie succesfully displayed by XnView).

Mmhhhh....It looks like something biggest than "the nose in the middle of the face", but I didn't found it until now!

Maybe right click on thumb->metadata->convert metadata to xmp?

The "convert metadata to XMP" is not available during ingest..
I'd rather to temporarly leave the thread and make additional tests .....

But it is after ingest. Does that bring in the rating? If so, then it's not related to embedded and not embedded.

I don't know why it works, but now it works !
and even if PSU not configured to write embedded metadata......is it possible? am I wrong?

I've worked a lot yesterday with this configuration, and experienced following workflow without any trouble :
1.ingest pictures already tagged with ViewNX2 (those did'nt work few days ago...)
2.change exif:DateTimeOriginal with external tool (ExifTool)
3."Read metadata from files"->make the new Date displayed by PSU

I'm sorry for this undue warning!
