Update causes problems

Post by judophotos »

Photo Supreme seemed to automatically update okay this morning allowing me to carry on working.

However, starting it this afternoon is impossible with it constantly showing the attached message.

The database and thumbnails are on a separate drive that is working perfectly.

Do you have any ideas?

This is a Windows message. This message pops up when software tries to access a file that is not available (offline).

For now I'd suggest that you ignore the message. Thought if this is about the database then verify that the medium is online and uses the identical configuration (drive letter/share) as before.

In general I highly recommend against storing a SQLite database on a removable medium. That requires a higher security configuration for SQLite, which you need to set with a registry tweak. Another downside is that that also slow down the complete application.

Thanks Hert.

The catalogue is not on a removable disk but disk E with the images on a Drobo.

I moved the database off drive C a few weeks ago because the catalogue is 2gb and the thumbs 42gb and will need to get bigger.

After rebooting I tried to open the program and it comes up with a different message as below indicating that it is looking for a different drive to that before.

When I click on the catalogue file on Drive E it comes up with a message that it can't find the program to open the catalogue.

I think I will need to uninstall and reinstall. Do you think that will help?

I dont expert change from a reinstall, but you can always retry.

Does the disk that windows reports mean anything to you? If unsure, look in the Disk Management feature of Windows to identify that partition. I'm quite sure that Windows doesn't list it.

But what happens when you click cancel?

That message has occasionally been displayed on my system (not pertaining to any IDimager product) and rebooting has always solved the issue.

Tried it today and nothing happened at all. Then downloaded the latest 64 bit version and installed it over the top and everything now looks okay.

Unfortunately, as you can see below, the problem has returned and I would guess that this is unique to my system.

Below is what I got this morning when I started the program and tried to open it 3 times. I then uninstalled it, restarted the PC and reinstalled it with the same problem. I have then uninstalled run AVG PC Tuneup, reinstalled and still the same problem.

Before this latest update it ran okay. Any ideas what this could be?

You never answered Hert's question about what happens when you click "Cancel." The clue may be in the answer to that question.

Sorry, my mistake and thanks for your assistance.

When I clicked cancel it briefly disappeared and came back. The same happened with Try Again and Continue adding further processes as can be seen in the snippet.

However, I have just started Photo Supreme this morning and it is now working!

Hopefully the problem has gone away. If not, I'll let you know.

Hi all,
this is an old I bug that occasionally also occurred already in IDI pro. There it is caused by card readers in multi-purpose scanner/printer devices, i.e., ones that have a card reader or USB port. When I turn on my printer IDI seems to think it is a hard drive that is not inserted although it simply is a printer that has a CF card slot. Turning off the printer and restart IDI usually does the trick, but sometimes I need to reboot the PC.
BTW - I am using USBDLM to manage my USB drives to avoid having all the slots of my card reader to show up as empty drive letters. Possibly that has something to do with it, not sure. One very positive difference I noticed between IDI and PSU: when you insert a USB stick Windows would not allow you to remove it while IDI was running telling you a program (= IDI?) was accessing that drive. Fortunately that has gone from PSU. It no longer seems necessary to shut down the application just to remove a USB stick...

Hope that helps.

David,

Continue to click Cancel until the message is gone.

You can verify in Windows Disk Administrator which drive the message relates to. That can help you identify what hardware causes the message. Frank could be right that it relates to a memory card slot. When such a driver reports to Windows that there's a medium inside the device then PSU will try to use it and monitor it's file system. In this case (as you get the message on startup) I think that the latter is what is raising the message. Meaning; PSU wants to monitor the drive because Windows reports that there's a medium in the drive.

Thanks for your help Frank and Hert.

It is still okay but if it happens again I'll follow your advice.

I'm pretty sure that Frank is right that it's the card reader. My son brought his HP 1530 all-in-one home from college and when I hooked it up to my computer, I got similar error messages. As Hert says, Windows is reporting a drive and PSU or IDimager tries to monitor its file system.

It happened again so I removed the card reader and it started okay.
Thanks for your help.
