Deleted Catalog folder

Post by tomas »

I just accidentally removed a large folder from the index. I hit 'delete' thinking I was deleting a file in the root of the folder. Apparently, I was in the folder pane and the folder immediately disappeared. No warning of any kind. Why is there no chance to 'cancel' like with deleting files? Now I have re-do all the cataloging of ALL the files in the folder after re-importing. This should not have happened and I am not happy.

Hello Tomas,

There is such a message; but you probably once ticked the "don't ask again" option in the past.

Use "Help -> Reset don't ask again questions" to reinstate them.

Hert,

That is probably true - I may have turned it off when I imported a large number of sub-folders and then removed those that are not important for cataloging. I will restore the warnings. Perhaps this a warning that should not be permitted to 'turn off' because of the serious implications.

Also of note, the 'highlight' of the folder does not change at all whether one is 'focused' on the folder or a file in the folder so there is no visual clue which one is the focus of the action. When the folder is in focus, the first file in the folder is also highlighted as if it were the 'center of attention'. Perhaps that should be changed so no files are highlighted. That would make the folder more obvious as the current 'focus'.

Interestingly, there is no option to turn off the warning message when deleting a single file from the catalog.

A further question.
Can I selectively restore a folder from the backup?

Before you restore the whole catalog from backup you could consider how your synchronize preferences were set, and whether these files were in-sync with the catalog. If write settings were favourable then simply reimporting the images (with appropriate read settings) could restore the cataloguing.
