Cloud archiving old photos

Post by oliverkalt »

Is there a way to maintain thumbnails of archived old photos in PS while archiving the physical old scans to a cloud storage/backup system.
Specifically I am currently moving all scans of old photos from 10years+ ago to Amazon S3 storage, and probably to Amazon Glacier very soon. With the Amazon Cloud Console it is easy to maintain and monitor a file list in storage, but to later know which file to restore just from a cryptic file date and number if the sudden and unexpected urge arises is daunting.
Can Photo Supreme maintain all thumbs in the DB while there are no physical copies around locally anymore?
Any warnings, best practices, and tips are appreciated.
thanks

Hi Oliver,
You can manage files that don't exist on file system. Of course you won't be able to sync ;)

Thanks Hert,
excellent, your comment implies that any "thumb cleanup" (or other database management functions) will not mess up my scheme. without any further action, I should maintain my thumbnails in the DB and will be able to find old photos easily if I mirror the folder structure on my cloud storage space.
does that mean I can never again use "Cleanup Unused Thumbs and Previews" as that would wipe them out from the DB or am I misunderstanding that functionality?

Oliver, you can continue to use "clean unused thumbs". That feature removes thumbs that are in the thumbs database but not in the catalog database.
