Can't launch PSU - error message re database upgrade

Post by flossie »

Hi folks,

I'm not able to open PSU since the upgrade and am getting an error message that says:

'Your database does not comply with the reaquirement:
Your database needs upgrading and you are not successfully logged in as the administrator. Please contact your application administrator or check your login credentials.
The application will now close.'

The problem is that I can't go anywhere with this... I am the administrator on my computer, and there is no login screen on which to enter or reset my password! Any ideas anyone?

Some other background:
> I've tried launching PSU from my laptop too and get the same error message, so its probably unrelated to anything on my desktop.
> Hert mentioned I could send my catalog database file for checking - but I'm not really that comfortable doign that if it means my photos would actually be sent across the web and visible to other people.

I'm really stuck...so any ideas I could try would be gratefully accepted and explored. I'm wondering if maybe I should uninstall and reinstall PSU from scratch - but (a) would that delete my existing catalog?, and (b) if the problem is a database one then it wouldn't fix it as I'd still use the same database.

Thanks a million for any ideas...

Laura.

If you use any reasonably secure method of transmission, you won't be making your images any more available to others than storing your database on a computer that is connected to the Internet. If Hert can take a look at your database, he might be able to diagnose the problem more quickly and more effectively. Very few software developers will ever make such an offer, so I highly recommend that you take him up on it.

If you move your catalog and thumbnail databases to a folder that is beyond your PSU system of folders, no reasonable method of uninstalling PSU will touch them. You should also have backups of your databases stored elsewhere as a second method of precaution.

Laura,

I only need the cat.db file and there are no images in there, just references to your images. I don't need the thumbs database. That database does hold your thumbs and previews and would make your images visible.

But I have a way around this. You can enable the login dialog so you can enter the correct password before the upgrade takes place. But it does require that you edit he registry. Are you comfortable with that?

Thank you both so much. I didn't realise no images in cat.db. I would be happy to either dropbox the cat.db or follow the registry edit instructions if they are clear (I'm sure they would be). Ready anytime, I'll stay by the computer. Thanks a million. Laura.

Hi Laura,

Let's try the registry approach first
0. IMPORTANT. Make sure that PSU is closed down (also that message you're getting)
1. run regedit (press WIn+R enter the text regedit and press enter)
2. open the tree to \\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IDimager Systems, Inc.\IDI\SQLiteLogin
3. Check if there is a value on the right side for "SkipLogin",
3A. if the key exists, change it to a value 0 by double clicking on the key name
3B. If it doesn't exist, select from the menu Edit->New->StringValue name it SkipLogin then double click and give it a value 0
4. Start PSU

You should now get a login dialog. Does it?

Thanks very much Hert. I just followed these instructions. The key existed and showed 1. I changed it to 0 and then started PSU.

I got a login dialog and my password appeared to be saved. I tried to log in and then got the same error message pop up - 'Your database does not comply with the reaquirement: Your database needs upgrading and you are not successfully logged in....' (the same as I posted earlier).

I also just tried the password you mentioned earlier, but this gives the same result.

Shall I try dropboxing the cat.db file?

Thanks,
Laura.

I just tried my earlier password in case the 'remembered' one wasn't correct...and it worked!

Thanks a million for the workaround to get the login dialog going again - thank you thank you thank you. (virtual flowers: _*\*|*/*_)
