PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
Hello
In order to test the syncing ability of PSU (I am on the demo version), I added a catalog label to in an image in Windows Live Photo Gallery (WLPG). However, when I look at the same image in PSU, it neither shows the added catalog label nor the orange dot to show that it is out of sync. Furthermore, if I manually sync, nothing happens (the image in PSU continues to be out of sync with the image in WLPG). This remains true even when I exit PSU and reopen.
If I make a change in PSU, WLPG sees the change right away.
This two-way sync works all of the time in IDImager V5 so I am perplexed.
What am I missing?
Is there a setting I forgot to activate in the Preferences?
Thanks,

Have you tried right click- metadata-read from file?

Yes. It doesn't help.
Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
Then verify if your other tool wrote metadata to the XMP section.

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
On my system, using WLPG to add a Tag to a JPEG image will definitely cause WLPG to write Keyword metadata into XMP. My PSU will also pick it up and use it to assign a Catalog label to the image.
What I suspect is possibly happening is that Elisabeth has not got PSU set up to "Replace Catalog Labels with existing keywords" in the Keywords Processing/Read Settings/Synchronize Settings in the PSU preferences... So there is no dynamic link between the Catalog labels and Keyword metadata when the Keyword metadata is modified outside of PSU.

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
This is one step closer. (Thanks George...er...Geoff )
In Preferences, Synchronize Settings / Read Settings, I changed Keywords Processing to "Replace catalog labels with existing keywords". However, the photos whose tags I changed in WLPG did not update in PSU until I selected the photo, right-clicked, Metadata/Auto Synchronize Metadata.
The way I have it currently set up in IDImager is that for any picture whose labels I change outside of PSU (for example in WLPG), when I open IDImager, they at least show the status "out of sync" (the orange dot). This is the behaviour I need. It defeats the purpose if I have to "remember" the photos that are changed in order to update them.
I have reviewed all the settings in Preferences and I cannot think what I am still missing.
Thanks,

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
Silly question
Do you start Folder verification after changing outside PSU?
As I know, IDI5 is noticing changes outside IDI and PSU not.
But maybe I am false because I have bought PSU but not really started my PSU-migration from IDI5
To start Folder Verification, right click on the folder in the catalog tree and select "Verify Folder".
(With Photo Supreme you can verify your folders. This allows you to quickly track changes at the file system which were (intended or unintended) made to these files, outside of the application.)

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
Hi Hert
When you say that PSU also notices the changes should I then see an Out Of Sync Notification on the thumbnail ?
When I make changes to images in Geosetter, for example, PSU doesn't show that the image has gone Out of Sync and running a Tools - Sync all Out of Sync Images doesn't pick them up.
Only if you do a Folder - Verify - or a Right Click - Metadata - Auto Sync ... then the changes are picked up and PSU updated.
Have a look at the movie at :
http://mikeandmorag.co.za/idImager/Geos ... _Flag.html
to see what I am doing wrong. Maybe it is my settings somewhere?
Thanks
MikeP

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
Just to add to Mike's comment, I observe the same behaviour, as noted in the original post at the start of this thread: add a tag in Windows Live Photo Gallery, open PSU, do not see the orange dot (Out of Sync) on the image thumbnail.
Is this a bug?
Do I need to submit a Mantis?

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
You shouldn't see the orange dot...the image should be synced automatically. You have auto-sync switched on in the options?

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
Hi Hert
Not quite sure where to switch on Auto Sync ?
There is an option to Automatically Write write Out Catalog Changes to the image file - I have disabled that because I'd rather not be continuously writing changes while I am working.
I have only looked under Preferences - Sync settings. Is there another place place I should be looking ?
Thanks
MikeP

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change
That is the one: write out automatically. Does it work with that switched on?
