Jumping from CATALOG to FOLDERS view

Post by maurizio »

Hello,
I try to navigate my images using the Catalog whenever possible. This is the big advantage of using a DAM rather than an image browser.
However, in one case I need to switch back to the Folders view: when I edit an image with a raster editor and need to import the new image in PSU.
My external editor (Picture Window Pro) saves the edited image in the same folder as the source image, adding a small suffix: if the original image was, for instance, bm-0099-06.tif, the edited image is saved as bm-0099-06-1.tif .

When I exit from my the raster editor I need to import the edited image in PSU. The only way to import the image, AFAIK, is through the command "Verify Folder". But to enter this command I need to switch to the Folders view.
Unfortunately, when I switch back to the folder view I end up in a different folder and I need to navigate to my image through the file system tree.
The command "Show more ... / from folder XXXXXX" does not switch to the Folders view.

So, or I am missing something or a command "Go to Folder View" in the contextual popup menu would be very useful.

Kind regards,

Maurizio

You can import a single file from the File menu. I think that is the easiest for you

I agree with Hert on this. I do this all the time. It really is very easy.

Also, let's say you have a few files in the same folder that you want to import.

File>Import Single Files
Navigate to the folder where the images are located.
Select the first image.
Hold the Crtl key and select each image you want to import.
When you have finished selecting the files, click "Open"
The files will be imported.

This is very easy to do, and will save time.

Hello,
thanks for your quick reply, however this does not solve my issue, unfortunately. Importing a single file requires browsing the file system to select the file I want to import. This is what I intend to avoid. Why should I navigate the file system when I already have in the light-table the original image which is the same folder of the new image I want to import ? The path information is already there and a "Go to folder" command would speed up things a lot. My issue is not about feasibility but about workflow efficiency.
Another reason is that, even manually importing the image, I would need anyway to go to the Folders view to drag and drop the newly imported (edited) image on the original one, in order to create a version set.

Kind regards,

Maurizio

If that's no option for you then I don't have a solution. Of course you can always log a feature request, but that won't help you now

Ok, I just opened a feature request in Mantis.
In the meantime I'll live without it.
Thanks,
Maurizio
