More information about "New Area"

I'm finally getting around to importing photos from recent years into V2. I've noticed "New Area" popups in some of the photos I've imported. I've found a the short description in the V2 "What's New" but am looking for a more complete explanation of this feature. I'm also curious to know why I'm onl...

Re: Expected metadata to be synchronized automatically

Hi Hert, Jeff, that is intended behavior. As mentioned, you typically use the Import module to import new images. Then you can assign catalog labels to every individual thumb (impossible with IDI, where you could only assign labels to all images). The counters then show the number of images to be as...

Re: Expected metadata to be synchronized automatically

When you try to import images that are already in the catalog then they will always be skipped. There's no marker to indicate that they are already in the catalog. Then again, you typically use the Import Module to import images that are not yet in the catalog. if you need to scan for new images fo...

Re: Expected metadata to be synchronized automatically

Hi Hert, I think I'm missing something. You import a folder and labeled those in PSU. The result is that there are xmp files created. Correct? That's correct. Then you say that you import the parent folder. Is that after starting with a new database or in the same database (with the already imported...

Expected metadata to be synchronized automatically

I imported a folder into Photo Supreme and then added labels to the images. I can see the .xmp files in the folder using Windows Explorer. However, when I go to the parent directory and do an Import, the images that I have just imported and labelled show up as being not imported and not labelled. Wh...

Re: Quick way to create label?

Hi Hert, thanks, I will give that a try.

For the future, it would be very nice if the popup list (of possible choices) included an option to create a new label.

Re: Quick way to create label?

Hi Mike, that doesn't work reliably. If the string you've typed matches exactly one label, pressing enter will use that label instead of displaying the popup window. By the way, with the gray color scheme (I think it's the standard one), the cursor is just about invisible. Hert, any chance of making...

Re: Sorting by date vs. filename

Thanks Lippe but I don't really want to change the naming convention. Even if I was willing to use the downloader to rename new images, I don't want to have to go back and rename existing images.

Thanks...

Re: Quick way to create label?

Hi Lippe,

What a kludge! But it should work, so thanks for the suggestion.

Note to Hert: If this is the best solution, then please consider adding an extra item at the bottom of the popup menu that says "Add new label".

Thanks...

Sorting by date vs. filename

I have decided to use sort by date taken, instead of filename, because I have some folders where two cameras were used. However, I have some folders where the images have been scanned and the dates are meaningless. I would like a script that would take the images, sort them by filename, and then tim...

Re: Zombie image: one image, two thumbs, can't be deleted

I think I fixed it. I turned off idi (and I don't use the File Monitor), then removed the image from the directory. Restarted idi, deleted the erroneous thumbs (I think one had the image on it and one had an X), then added the image back to the directory and somehow convinced idi to display it. So f...

Re: Zombie image: one image, two thumbs, can't be deleted

Renamed the image, idi shows one thumb with the new name and one with the old. Tried to delete the old but the delete dialog box comes up with no choices.

Restarted idi, now it labels both thumbnails with the same (new) filename.

Zombie image: one image, two thumbs, can't be deleted

While perusing my images, I notice in one folder that the same image has two thumbs. If I try to delete one thumb, idi give me three choices and I select "Remove from catalog". If I try to delete the second thumb, that choice is not available, and I don't want to remove the image from disc. If I lea...

Quick way to create label?

Now that I'm using the catalog explorer rather than the media explorer, I'd like to find a way to create a label without changing my context in the catalog explorer. If the label is really unique, then I can enter it in the Label Assignment panel and press enter and it will be created. However, if t...
