I still have Sony Alpha A300 for personal use and I have Canon 60D at work.
In many areas, I still like A300 more -- too bad Sony makes crappy semi-translucent mirror cameras now, I would never buy one of those.

Re: Sql server version of Photo Supreme
Andrew, in the early days of IDI Hert had evaluated different DB backends, including mysql and postgre. I can't find the thread now, but as far as I can remember, only the performance of MSSQL and SQLite sufficed with the kind of operation that IDI needed. Maybe now it's time to reconsider...

Re: Dynamic Searching. How?
Hey, this is a very useful thread, although I'm a bit disappointed by the harsh tone of the discussion.
I just wanted to support Hert on his vision of the problem, it suits me very well, and if you look up my posts from a few years back, I've been making similar requests regarding the search ...

Re: Sql server version of Photo Supreme
Hert, sorry for my amatuer assumption, but how do you explain the fact that cases of SQLite database corruption are very common, while MSSQL databases almost never get corrupt? Just search this forum: there are tens of threads regarding SQLite database corruption, and none about MSSQL.

Re: Sql server version of Photo Supreme
MSSQL is not only good for multiuser access. The other aspect is stability and safety of data. During 2 weeks of testing, my thumbs databases has been corrupt a few times, then now my main database is said to be malformed when updating search indexes and so on... During five years using of MSSQL I ...

Re: Sql server version of Photo Supreme
+1.
As a temporary solution to enable multi-user viewing without locking, I'm thinking of creating a windows shell script, that would clone existing database, run PSU with it and, possibly, delete database on exit.
BTW, what command line parameters are supported by PSU?
Hert, anyways eventually ...

Re: Very fragile with large database under heavy load
Hey Mike, thanks for the explanation. At least I'm not the only one...
So does it mean that PSU is not able to use more than 2gb or ram?
Whatever the limitation is, it would be great to detect it, and help PSU not grow over it and crash.
It's like linux always crashing on extra load which it can't ...

Very fragile with large database under heavy load
Hey Hert!
I can't post this one as a ticket, as it's too broad and unspecific, but I still need your opinion on this problem.
I have a decent PC: AMD eight-core, 8gb of RAM, Win7.
I have converted database with 60k images from IDI Pro, and now added another 70k, so now I have 130k images in the ...

Re: Migrating from IDimager V5 SQLServer to Photo Supreme
I just want to report, that I've been able to convert three databases, one of which has 130000 images, from SQLServer to Supreme, almost in no time.
I do get PSU to crash occasionally with all sorts of different errors already reported on the forums (usually when testing with select of 60000 images ...

Hert, I also get this error sometimes. What do you mean by Windows limitation? No way to fix or overcome it?

Thank you, Hert.

Re: Migrating from IDimager V5 SQLServer to Photo Supreme
Hey Andrew,
I can't seem to find the conversion tool on the forums, but found it on my local PC. See it in attachment (rename from .exe.txt to .exe, it doen't allow uploading .exe), it's very straightforward how to use it.

My very first impressions and appreciation of Supreme
Hert, I'm so appreciate you've left label relationships in IDI Supreme. It's a core of my cataloging approach, and if you ever abandon it I'm screwed!

Re: Migrating from IDimager V5 SQLServer to Photo Supreme
Thanks Hert, just what I've thought.
I recommend adding this note to your instruction.
Is SQLServer supported ever planned?
I really need to have a concurrent access to the database!
