The database, aka the PSU catalog, is the heart of PSU and is what underlies your catalog structure, searches etc etc. Whilst you _could_ not read in any metadata from the image files (by altering PSU's default settings) it makes no sense that I can think of to do so.

I tried adding a new label to a category, and setting "Also assign its parents" to YES (actually I'd expect that to be the default but never mind). It might be worth adding for anyone running older versions that in previous PSU versions the bookmark icon was a heart shape.

I do something similar, using a folder called "Albums" ("My Photos" would probably have been a better name!).
I also use a date based folder structure under that, but I let PSU create that automatically upon ingestion so I am ensured of consistency and that the photos go in the correct folder. I ...

The comments and suggestions in the original post make a lot of sense to me, +1. (Though I realise it's probably a lot of work and that use of resources would have to be weighed against other work and possible enhancements).
