Re: Metadata not saved to many jpg files

This is clutching at straws somewhat but it does seem that you have reached this point so...

i. might be worth trying Irfanview (free and my favourite viewer) as it seems reasonably good at reporting file errors etc;
ii. might be worth trying one of the photo rescue programs/apps, they are ...

Re: I Need Advice on Organizing Large Photo Collection with Photo Supreme

The one thing I would add to that excellent post is - keep it simple. Don't break your categories down too small at first - if you do find you need to divide a category into sub-categories you can always do this later. So using gcorbin's example let's say you had pictures of butterflies. If you only ...

Re: What, exactly is "Synchronize Service"?

The database, aka the PSU catalog, is the heart of PSU and is what underlies your catalog structure, searches etc etc. Whilst you _could_ not read in any metadata from the image files (by altering PSU's default settings) it makes no sense that I can think of to do so.
Simply put, the main question ...

Off-topic, but may I ask if you have any recommendations for family tree programs? The one I used to use has been defunct for many years and I still haven't found a replacement I like!

Thanks

OK thanks Hert; perhaps I was thinking of the PSU lite version that was discontinued some months ago.

Free importer tool?

Did I dream this or did there use to be a free PSU image importer tool?

Re: Really stupid question about Categories

I tried adding a new label to a category, and setting "Also assign its parents" to YES (actually I'd expect that to be the default but never mind). I then assign the label to an asset, and .. the asset label counter shows "1" and the Parent (Category) is not applied. Of course the database knows ...

Re: Really stupid question about Categories

Apologies if you already know all this as a long-time user, but in case you don't: Categories are internal to PSU and its database (catalog). They are indeed hierarchical (as you can see from the categories panel on the left of the screen). As Geoff says you can apply any level to an image. Be aware ...

Re: Adding photos to catalogue

I do something similar, using a folder called "Albums" ("My Photos" would probably have been a better name!).
I also use a date based folder structure under that, but I let PSU create that automatically upon ingestion so I am ensured of consistency and that the photos go in the correct folder. I ...

Re: Show which Collections are assigned to an image

The comments and suggestions in the original post make a lot of sense to me, +1. (Though I realise it's probably a lot of work and that use of resources would have to be weighed against other work and possible enhancements).
