Export original image

Post by jhfelectric »

Hello,
I work remotely using a Server Edition, so my local executable does not have the "Locate in folder" button, and the "export to folder" button always downsizes the size/resolution of the exported image.
My question: how can I export the original image from disk using Server edition of PS.
Thanks for any help

I cannot follow.
If you don't have access to the original file in the Server Edition (or Single User edition...it doesn't matter) then the "Locate in folder" context menu item is indeed not there. Instead you'll get an option to point to the file.
If you don't have access to the original file then you cannot send the original file.

If you do have access to the original file then in the "Export to Folder" dialog there's a check to enable/disable resizing. make sure that that is unticked to send out the original file.

Hi Hert,
Thanks for your quick reply. Let me reformulate.
I have a machine A (server) which has a PS Server Edition installed with PostgreSQL. This machine holds the databases and all original images.
When I log on that machine and use PS, I can export and locate original images without any problem.
I work on machine B (client) with the same version of PS, accessing resources from machine A through PS.
When I log on that machine and use PS, the locate folder button is not available and the export is always downsized no matter the settings.
In my situation, my family members all use PS on their local machine, all pointing to the server. How can my kids or wife access to the original images from PS on their machines ?
Thanks again.

This is because you have 2 clients with "different view/ access" to your image store. And this is saved in the database

Your machine A - if your loged-in and go to folders you have something like C:\myPictures\images
If you loged-in from machine B and go to folders you have again the same path but.... this path is not accessible from your machine B.
Go on machine B to folders and set correct "create cross platform mapping" or move your images to path that have same way from each client something like \\myservername\path\to\iamges

Hi RobiWan,
Thanks for your input.
Indeed, if my images are not on a shared folder, I will not be able to "locate" them through PS from both server and client at the same time.
But that does not explain why I cannot export images in original size.
The idea of having the original images hidden on a server behind the PS executable is to not be able to access them and to mess around.
When my wife is on her computer, she wants to export a selection of images in their original size, not a down-sized copy.
For example, imagine looking at some photos through the OneDrive web site. When you download images from there, you expect to have a copy of the original, not a smaller version. In PS I am looking for the same feature: I create a selection of some images, and click "export" to get them from the server without resizing.
I uploaded a drawing which I hope will help: on the server, the export button will create same-size copies of original ; on the client, the same button, with the same settings (copy to folder, resizing disabled) will create reduced-size copies of original. How can I export non-reduced-size images ?
Thanks again for your help.
