How to transfer PS 5.3.2 Server Edition (PG) data to PS 7.3.0?

Post by yogavidyapubs »

We have a licensed PSv7 and were able to get it running on our existing PostgreSQL 12 instance. I installed PostgreSQL 14, but cannot find any way to transfer data that does not result in an error.

Methods tried:
1. backup catalog from PSv5.3.2 and import into PSv7.3.0
2. use PS Data Exchange Tool v1 (link found on sticky post on forum) using PG to PG option
3. backup and restore using pgAdmin on PG14 (I'm not an experienced db admin so this one was most difficult to make any headway on, but I would love a recipe for getting this to work if it is a viable option). In particular, I'm not clear how to recreate the idimager user and set the password using SQL queries.

Can someone please recommend a tried, tested, and recommended procedure for migrating data from PostgreSQL 12 to PostgreSQL 14 where the original data is from a previous PS version? In this case PS_ServerEdition_v5.3.2.pg to PS_ServerEdition_v7.3.0.pg

The errors I am getting are reported with screenshots in the following issue:

Please follow the steps as documented in the Maintenance manual (see chapter: Upgrading to a new PostgreSQL version).

https://manualsu.idimager.com/version7/ ... enance.pdf

The crux is to use pgAdmin to create a backup in the old PostgreSQL version and restore that with pgAdmin in the new PostgreSQL version)

Thank you, reading through the Maintenance manual helped. In particular, the instruction to use the "clean before restore option" let me get past the db issues I was encountering. The attached info panel was very helpful.

I was able to do the back and restore from PG12 to PG14 using the same version of pgAdmin which was installed with PG12.
